What do you want your funeral to be like?

Not at all. I just like the romance of the idea. I doubt my actual demise will prelude an atypical departing ceremony.

It's possible something like that might be an unexpected and unusual gift. Bragging rights. It could herald a resurgence in oral traditions of the past. Probably not though. More likely the tale would be distilled down to its essence. Some old nut drove off into the desert like an bloody moron and it cost a fortune to find him. So we had him cremated and used the ashes to fertilize yonder tree.

Who knows. I'll be dead no matter what goes down after.

Then discuss religion rather than trying to impress with fantasy
You just got here, what?, ... Saturday? The kid's been "here" since December 2014. He's got "seniority" that you don't have. I recommend that you lighten up or left click on his user name and then on the word "Ignore". It'll do wonders for your disposition and, I suspect, speed you on your way to enlightenment.

I suppose if I had the ability to know my death was impending. If I was still capable of functioning well enough to remember where there is desert, how to get there and then be able to go, it might.

If my family has forgotten me enough that they no longer know me so well, that wouldn't say much for my legacy either. I could leave some sort of note for them if it makes you feel more comfortable.

My real point is that I find traditional funerals to have become an unkind legacy. Though, you are correct if you are leaning on the one value in providing closure. In that, my fantastical idea might be unkind. Perhaps it would be better to posthumously host a big going away party and encourage everyone to celebrate rather than grieve.

I'd like to be remembered as ill Duce. ill as in sick. Also Spiderman, and hopefully my pet tarantulas would find a good home.

I would want to die from a venemous arachnid bite and found half decomposed flesh partially eaten by wolves and two pallbearers because there's only two handles on a garbage can and some prayer warriors praying for my soul. Closed casket (or garbage can) funny funeral. I'd also like to be hung upside down and used as target practice for a while. I'd want my corpse spit on, mutilated, and urinated on as well to share in the humiliation and desecration of Il Duce, Jesus Christ, and the many souls I venerate who died without dignity or burial whose corpses were abused.

I would eventually like a Catholic priest to celebrate mass for the repose of my soul but not have too much good said about me, for I get more prayers if it sounds like my soul is in jeaprody. I'd want lots of laughter at my funeral as well though. I'd like it to more resemble a wedding with lots of drunkards dancing, and talking with slurred speech about what a nut I was and using me as the subject of their songs.

Would want my body to be kept in a box in a monastery for 12 years like Mussolini's was and my soul would ever pray with the monks and assist at Mass. Then I'd want my bones displayed on the walls as is done at a few monasteries.
I think your idea is going to cost more than mine.

In thailand a funeral can last 5 days with food and drink and the body in attendance with an oven or pyre , your choice

I forgot to mention this, but I'm in Missouri. About 800 miles from the nearest desert. Further from the Sonoran. I wouldn't be caught dead in a desert unless it is the Sonoran Desert. Sure, the Mojave is cool, but taxes and property values in California would be murder. Besides, I like Tucson.

I understand that our few hours is nothing compared to some cultures. That might be a good alternative. Friends and family can roll it into a vacation. Maybe prop me up to do some sight seeing with them.

My real point is that I am for life and living. I never had much interest in funerals. I don't see value in anything elaborate. My peace is already made. Though, I have paid my respects to friends and family that have had them. If rather they were still around. Conversations wouldn't seem as strange for one thing.

If I recall correctly, Robert Heinlein 's widow was able to arrange to have some of his ashes launched into space. That is an interesting idea.

I am participating in this thread to carry on some speculative postulating. Not to announce some actual closing plan to my grand schemes coming to an end. Just a little amusement.

Your participation is a last gift to them
