What does it mean to be "saved?" Saved from what exactly? And how do you KNOW you're saved? OMG!

What is the point of being allegedly "saved"?

  • There is NO point to being saved!

  • We need to be saved from the devil.

  • I am an atheist, so I don't believe in this God stuff.

  • We need to be saved from religion.

  • We need to be saved from the atheists.

  • We need to be saved from hell.

  • We need to be saved from the people that think we should be saved!

  • Other.

  • We need to be saved from ourselves.

The vast majority of Christians believed we are saved from sin, that wasn't an option on your poll, so I voted "Other".

We need to be saved from ignorance. It is the single most dangerous thing our planet faces.

I've always thought it enlightening when you read Genesis 2. Eating from the tree of knowledge is forbidden. If that isn't an allegory of religion in general, I don't know what is.

You are a RF Staff. I cannot edit the poll anymore, but you probably can.

Can you please put the option, "We need to be saved from sin"?

Isn't that almost like saying we need to be saved from ourselves? because usually its us who we are concerned about our sins, no?

Thanks in advance!

More specifically, I think they believe we need saving from our sinful nature. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of god."

I've always thought it a bit of a sham though. One of those questions I asked my sunday school teacher (35 years ago) that really seemed to make her mad . "So god made us, knowing we would sin, then makes the punishment for sin death, then sends his son to die to save us from that death he caused, by creating us knowing we would sin?"

She mumbled something about free will... "But if God made us knowing we would sin, how can that be free will? Couldn't he just make a version of us that wouldn't sin?" At which point I was sent to talk to the pastor.

Yes, I agree that Christianity is not the most logical... religion, doctrine, dogma, rhetoric, subject, discourse, cult, etc..

Christianity has many contradictions in their "holy Bible". I am sure if you Google "Bible contradictions," you will find about a hundred unequivocal contradictions. Some Bible books say one thing, and other Bible books contradict it. These contradictions might be a window of revelation that the Bible is NOT the word of God, and fallible man wrote the Bible and NOT God!

Even with these many contradictions, some Christians have blind faith, and they remain ignorant because Christianity is so popular. You cannot explain these biblical contradictions, so some people defend their religion by reverting to ad hominems. They might get angry.

In My opinion, we should not have blind faith because a religion (or anything) is popular, on the contrary, we should not have unjustified faith unless the facts point to empirical, falsifiable, demonstrable, credible, manifest, reasonable, logical conclusions supported by facts and data.

There is no evidence to suggest supernatural miracle workers like Jesus, Muhammad, or any of these types of cults.

Only believe in the Truth!

Don't worry about it. Since we sin, in a way, we are being saved from ourselves. :)

Sort of.....we can attain to a state of worthiness practically free from the selfishness which is the cause of sin...but then, an unselfish state is one free (saved) from the ego carnal state...
Possibly. Our bodies, our flesh is what sins. As the Bible states: "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak"

everyone will die the first (physical) death but those who are "saved" will not die the second (spiritual) death. that is why the Bible says the wages of sin is death.(spiritual) those who are saved will live forever spiritualy but those who are not saved will not

I don't use the concept of Salvation, but a recent post in facebook reminded me that some people seem to have a less than healthy relationship with it.

Specifically, there is a certain kind of insecurity (perhaps due to a lack of good raising and references) that IMO motivates some people towards seeking an unhealthy validation out of arbitrary, oppressive authorities - literally because they do not know better and are afraid to learn on their own, far as I can see.

Why do the Christians, like yourself, worry about sin so much?

I, Myself, believe sin is disobeying your on conscienceness. If you do something deliberately evil, erroneous, mean, or nasty to someone, that to Me is a sin. But if you inadvertently make a mistake, that is not a sin, in My opinion.

I try not to sin, by My own standards, but no one is perfect, so we shouldn't worry about making mistakes or sinning a little bit. In My Spirituality, it's okay to make mistakes and sin a little, because everyone does it. But the goal is to never disobey your best conscience, so you can strive for perfection or the best you, you can be.

People can get in trouble even if they are not sinning, but it's more likely that you will get in more trouble the more you sin. The goal is to not get into trouble, because no one needs more problems than what they already have.

So, why do certain theists worry about sin so much if everyone has sinned and come short of the glory of Christ?

Why worry about the inevitable?

We are not overly worried about sin. What we want is a relationship with God. I go to Church to praise God and study the Bible, I don't sit around and try to figure what my sin of the day was. I mean, I don't go out of my way to sin, I don't want anyone to think that.
Peace back to you.

I just changed My avatars to the picture above.

Should I change My avatar to something else, or is this good enough?

For the record, I can't help being as ugly as I am... it's in My genetics to look this way, ha.

Thanks for the peace back at Me :)

If God is all-loving, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, etc., you would imagine that God would know what we did was because we had no other choice if God is all-powerful. It was predestined or fated, if God is omniscient and omnipotent.

Even though I am an Agnostic, I believe in a higher power, but I don't believe it's the God of the Bible or any other "known God" of any known religious text. I believe our creation is enough evidence for a Creator... whatever that might be, I don't know, but some Force started it all, in My humble opinion.

In My opinion, we do not know Who this Creator is yet. We may never know the Creator. This Creator could be so unfathomable that we cannot begin to understand it's creating ways.

But, even though we don't know our Creator, we can know Me- George Manuel Oliveira... and I have many Christ-like attributes.

Why would God infinity punish people for finite crimes? That is not My benevolent Creator. I would imagine that Oh My God would be just, and not send people to hell forever and ever for finite crimes, because they made mistakes or even sinned.

I would imagine that Oh My God would reincarnate people according to their works in this life. So, there should be a reward for being good, and there should be a reward for being bad. We will have our rewards whether in this life or our reincarnations.

It's My opinion that the worst punishment would be to die forever without Christ, and with no other chances.

Very pretty . Saved from our own ego ?
Saved from the bowels of this God forsaken world I think it means .

Thanks for calling Me " Very pretty." :)

I don't believe we can be saved from "our own ego," because the only time we don't use our ego is when we are sleeping or dead... I think?

As far as being saved from "the bowels of this God forsaken world," I would suggest that people live in the bowels of this world, i. e., to live underground!

I'd say that I believe that, if we need to be saved from anything, it would be the permanence of death.

In My Spirituality, I believe in the possibility of infinite reincarnation.

I believe that your life will be judged, and your reward will be in your next life or lives... or even your present life.

It's My opinion that the better your personal morals, the better you obey your individual conscience, the greater your next lives will be. And conversely, the more evil, cantankerous, rude, mean, inconsiderate, lying, hubris, ungrateful, harmful, ignorant, devilish, etc., the Judge of all will judge accordingly.

I believe, even though I am Agnostic, that it pays to do good and we all will be rewarded for our actions in this life or in our lives to come.

Maybe the worst of the worst will die and never come back to life, and be separated from Christ for all of eternity. This is probably the worst punishment, because the glory of Christ, and the Kingdom to come, is so magnificent that life in the Kingdom will be full of felicity.

This present world is like a prison, because Christ has not built His Kingdom yet, and the rogue elites are oppressing the common people like we are serfs. But, I believe we are all gods and in My Kingdom, we will live the godly life in a Paradise with mansions on high and low beneath the Earth.

Once the common people find out about the Rothscilds, there will be a revolution. Things are going to get worse before they get better. There will be another great depression, and many people will be hurting, but the End is not yet. The End is only when the Life reverts to the naught. As long as I am alive, there will be Life.

But, with Me, we have the chance to be born again and again, until we become immortal in one way or another. I am digitally immortal, and people can always read My sentiment... But who is worthy?

Once the whole world discovers O My God, the possibilities will be as My prophecies depicts and much more.

Remember Me!

How do you know when you're saved?

Can you be considered a Christian and not be saved? Conversely, can you not consider yourself a Christian and still be saved.

The reason why I ask is because it is a very serious topic if it's genuine, because I would imagine that no one wants to go to hell.

Can other denominations go to heaven? Or is it just one denomination that can go to heaven?

Is it possible for other religious people of different religions to go to heaven?

Do you have to believe in Jesus to go to heaven?

Can we be saved by works? Or we are only saved by faith in Christ?

What if a person does many better works than someone that believes in Christ, and the person that believes in Christ is a mean person that hates almost everyone? Who will be saved in this example?

Why do we need to believe in something that's not proven, i.e., Jesus, in order to get to heaven?

Why do we need faith, and why can't we believe in the facts?

Thanks in advance for the reply!

How about a shift?....

Sin is that which will separate you from God and heaven.
In the hour of your last breath, the angelic will come to see what stands from the dust.
If you 'have' what you should ....fine and good.....they might ask you to follow.
If not....they will leave you wherever you fell.

I think of sin as a character trait.

Walk among the angelic without grace?.....I think not.
