Good point. I wish more Christians would openly discuss the OP topic with us man. I want to be enlightened or something. I mean, I'm not going to pick my dusty old Bible and try to get to the bottom of this premarital sex = sin thing, but I am very curious to the answer, heh.

Yeah, I am a bit surprised by the lack of christian responces. So far we have two atheists, a hindu, and one christian, if I remmember correctly, as the only participants. Still, not a bad thread so far. It's kind of nice to muse about a topic without the worry of intence debate flaring up.

That why like the individual religion threads. Because if you are going to post in them, regardless of your belief, you need to 'pretend' that you are from the religion, or at least enough to let in to a suspension of disbelief, at least for the sake of a conversation. If you had started this post in the general debates, it would be much, much different.

Probably, but I think I'd have to change to title to something like 'Jesus condones pre-marital sex' to really get a passionate responce, lol.

Oh.. nice thinking. Instead of some fundie saying "I'm not going to ask that genuine question." and then passing by the thread, he would say "Oh, that doesn't fit my belief system" and then would come in to refute you. Once a fundie comes in, everyone joins the conversation at the point, either for or against, or whatever. Hmm.

At any rate, where did we land as to jesus' opinion on this topic? Perhaps we've discussed it as far as we can without a christian perspective?

I think your problem with this thread will be, Christians are typically not just following the bible, but a combo of both the bible and tradition and culture. They are taught it is not good, without reference in the bible.

The other problem is everyone knows your not a Christian, and historically such threads have been used to pick on Christians, so they typically stay away from threads like this.

Have you read the NT? It might be good to do so, and then come tell us what you find. I would be interested in hearing that.

More on the interpretaion. Also, I don't know how you read the bible, but it's been my experience that people remmember general idea's, stories, but only remmember specifics if they are reading for a purpose, looking for something inparticular. If people remmembered everything in the NT I think there'd be more of an interest in church's to explain the incongrueties, lest some suffer too much cognitive dissonance.

I don't know what you mean by that or what relevance you think the bowling man had to this thread, but it's seems clear that, since you could not win the debate with me regaurding the golden rule you've decided to come to the DIR section and try to pick a fight.
