What does the word 'love' mean?

In a godless universe, love is an instinctive response only.. a drive to reproduce, raise and nurture offspring, and herd instinct. There could be no 'soul love!' or agape love, in a godless universe.

Why?

Sounds to me like you are just asserting this.

There is self interest, and animal instinct, and humans delude themselves thinking there is more than that.

Why would it be delusional?
If humans have the mental capacities for love, then they have them. How can that be a delusion?
You're not making any sense.

In a God made universe, it could be different. Altruistic senses could have been embedded by God, to elevate mankind above mere animal instinct

And without a god "embedding" it, altruism couldn't exist?
And your evidence for this is....?

Sounds like a false dichotomy and yet another mere bare assertion to me.

A spiritual Love as a deep seated sense & motivation.. a reflection of the values and nature of the Creator.. beauty, abstraction, thoughts of eternity, infinity, and purpose.

Jealously, bigotted, petty,... don't forget those "divine" values, which the christian god clearly has..

these are possibilities in a God made universe, but delusions in a godless one.

Asserting it, doesn't make it so.

Support your claim.

No, that is a distortion. Christianity has done more to elevate altruistic love than any other ideology. It is merely religious bigotry, from a competing ideology trying to smear Christianity, that accuses 'hate!', 'oppression!' and 'evil!' toward the only ideology that has actually brought equality, natural law, and inherent rights to the human collective.

You are deluded with a false narrative, from agenda driven ideologues.

There is nothing "good" in your christian philosophy that can't be accomplished by purely secular means.

All the mythological / theological baggage that tries to piggy back on the several good ideas, is completely unecessary for those "good" things.

There are many bad things though, that can only occur within the context of those religious beliefs.

And as it so happens, I happen to think that the very core of christian philosophy, is completely rotten and repugnant. The ideas of original sin, the idea that humans by default need "saving", the idea of absolving responsability / guilt of crimes by sacrificing a scapegoat,... It's one of the most immoral and unethical ideas / worldviews I've ever encountered.

I consider it absolute poison for the mind.

The very existence of 'Love', as more than an animal instinct, is evidence for God.

It is my belief that God is real, and embedded these traits in us. You believe in 'no God', apparently, how do you source these abstract, metaphysical qualities?

Do you have any evidence for YOUR beliefs? Or just believe them strongly, from the influences in your life?

What is the justification by which you claim that love could ONLY exist in a universe created by a god?

Progressive indoctrinees like to pretend there is 'beauty!', 'love!', 'purpose!', and 'morality!', in a godless universe where such platitudes can only be human inventions for manipulation.

There is plenty of evidence for God, all around, and within. You are just indoctrinated to blind yourself to possibility.

No problem.. you can believe whatever you want.. but why is it necessary for you to mock and ridicule other's beliefs?

Claiming you have evidence, is not the same as actually presenting that evidence.

The outcome of only claiming you have evidence, is the exact same as not having any evidence.

Please present your evidence.

..meaningless platitudes, in a godless universe.

Reproduction is the only instinct, and delusions of some ethereal 'Love!' are just manipulations and seduction.

Really? 'Soul Love!' , 'Together forever!' 'The One!', 'Meant for each other!' ?

Not possible, in a godless universe. There is a reproductive drive, and tactics for seduction. Blathering on about hearts, flowers, and 'Soulmate!', is just a peacock display, to impress a potential mate..

That's all it can be, in a godless universe.

Dude..................
Not even theists universally believe in things like "soulmates" and "meant for eachother" and just use those words as figure of speech to illustrate how well their relationship is going.

Good grief!

It's all is ad hominem: attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

I can't be arsed going through it all: the first part of your post 'You're not following anything close to a "rational" conclusion. That's what I'm doing' .is attributing the inability to reach a rational conclusion to the target
Not true. If the conclusion is not rational, the conclusion is not rational. Nothing need be said for "the target."

What does that word mean to other posters?

To me love means care without conditions. It is not an emotion, not even liking.

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
1 Cor. 13:4-6

Well we see it differently.

Does he pay top dollar? If so, can I get his contact number in case I'm in a future bind?
No, you don't find him. He finds you.

Maybe you could try standing in front of a mirror and saying his name out loud 3 times?

And he doesn't take money. Instead, he grants you a wish in exchange for your soul.

:)

Say his name three times? I think you're confusing Satan with Bloody Mary. (That, or Beetlejuice.)

I'm expecting money in exchange for my soul, not me paying him to take my soul. (Unless it's that worthless.)

I'd prefer Aladdin's lamp. I get three wishes instead of one and the genie expects nothing in return.

Right, typo. Yes, I meant "he doesn't give money, he grants a wish instead".

Aladdin's lamp sounds cool indeed, but everybody knows that that is just a fictional story off course.... :)
Other then that, I wouldn't know how to summon Satan.

Maybe email Lars Ulrich? The dude clearly would have needed supernatural help to become such a rock star without being able to keep a simple beat in time and clearly the man has no soul either. :D

If he's interested, I don't need to advertise it. As you said, he'll find me when he's in the market for a new soul. And if I had to, I imagine Bloody Mary and Beetlejuice would pass the message along, as they prolly work for him.

Not a Metallica fan, or is it just Lars? You made me think of the war he had with Napster years ago; the file sharing music program.

Haha :)

yes, it's just Lars. :p
But he's part of the Metallica machinery that turned into the epic icon in the world of rock that it is and he deserves credit for that, especially since he was pretty much the driver of that machine, business-wise.

As a drummer, he's a joke though. I always thought it was kind of a "miracle" that a drummer like that achieved what he did. :D

I could tell he was the one that wore the pants in the band since the Napster days. I never noticed how skilled (or rather, unskilled) he was on the drums. I'll have to listen to him solo.

Since Metallica is well beyond established, maybe if you're lucky he'll retire or get ousted and replaced with someone more talented... and taller... and with hair.

Youtube is filled with clips of him messing up and being crazy bad in the studio, on rehearsels, on stage... there's also this one clip of him when he's playing masters of puppets (i think) to record for the game Rock Band. He had to retry plenty times because he kept going out of time during the intro.

Considering the kind of stages he plays on and the amount of albums sold, it's really embarassing. :)
Skill-wise, he's the laughing stock of the drum world. :)

And nah, Metallica should never replace him. It wouldn't be Metallica without him.
While being an embarassement, he's also a massive source of inspiration / motivation. Countless people picked up drumsticks because of him.

His success has always fascinated me too. :)

Gonna back out now, because this is getting tremendously off topic and it's a topic a could write entire books about lol

Sounds like you have a love/hate relationship with Lars. I'll YouTube him for a few laughs.

As for going off-topic... It happens to every topic, eventually. Still, I don't want to get gelded by anyone, so I'll bow out as well. Good luck with your books. ;)
