What does your user name mean?

The Devil's Advocate
This is such an obvious question that my guess is that it's already been asked in another thread and is burried in the recesses somewhere. My apologies if so.

I am fascinated by people's chosen usernames. I imagine that there is an interesting story behind many.

lilith has been a part of me for well over a decade now, perhaps a decade and a half. When the internet first started to come into general use, there were newsgroups similar to our forums, and also these online interactive "games" called MUSHes (multi-user-simlated-something or another.) It was all text - a far cry from the Sims online and other interactive games today. I had just learned the story of Adam's first wife and was fascinated with lilith. The world's first woman was also the world's first feminist, and much more interesting than either Adam or Eve. So lilith was my avatar, and took up residence in the virtual world of the Sprawl. (Does anyone here remember Sensemedias' Sprawl?)

At some point lilith needed a surname. I wanted one that reflected my Chinese heritage but also meant something more. I settled on 'hu', which is a not-uncommon surname, but phonetically can also mean tiger. The tiger represents the feminine principle in Taoism, the yin. It is equal to the dragon, the yang. Tigers are also feared and mistrusted in Chinese folklore. They get a bum rap, just as lilith did. And plus, I just like cats! :jam:

As I write this, it strikes me that I come off as quite the feminist. Must be subconscious because I did not feel the need for such an overtly pro-female avatar. What I was really responding to were characters that are misunderstood and wrongly maligned by society. I have always had sympathy for the devil. ;)

Anyway, lilith hu got shortened into lilithu, which is how you will find me in just about every online forum that I've visited.

For even more verbose explanations of lilith and hu, please visit:

So please, how did you come to be who you are? I'm just dying to hear your stories!

Fyre(my fiesty side spelled different than dictionary version...also heat or fire)

Brigid (Celtic Maiden Goddess of Creativity and also fire...in some definitions she is also considered the Mother, Maiden, Crone while in others she is just a Maiden Goddess)

Ice (my cold response to people who treat others with disrespect...my calm side at times ... opposite of heat and fire to show that there must be a balance of opposites for many things in life to exist.

Linus is, of course, that loveable, blanket toting, little brother of Lucy from the Charlie Brown comics. My sophpmore year of high school I was in the play, "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" and I played (drumroll please) Linus. The name just kinda stuck with me after that, so I use it on most of my online personas.

I'd always wondered if that's where your name came from, Lilithu! It's nice to have it confirmed.

Short version, I wear feathers in my hair when I'm working shamanically, or when I want to honor my higher self. I've posted the long version, but I'd have to go and find it...

Like lilithu , it started off as a gamer's name . Created by playing around with the word cretin . It is the only name I have ever created for myself , and I think it a prefectly good name for an ogre . Which is another story . I sometimes tell people that I was named after my grandmother , only she spelled it with an upper case K . ;)

BTW lilithu , Lilith was much more then just a feminist you know . I think that a Tiger suits her . :)

Mine has two meanings which tie into each other. The first being Circle One is my favorite song by my favorite band, The Germs. It's the kind of song you listen to in any situation and it just goes along with every emotion you're feeling (well, it does for me.) The lyrics are, as follows (I'll continue with the other explanation after the lyrics.)

I'm Darby Crash, a Social Blast, Chaotic Master.
I'm Darby Crash, Your Mecca's Gash, Prophetic Stature.
I'm Darby Crash, a One Way match, Demonic Flasher.

Deep, deep, deep in my eyes,
There's a round, round, round circle of lives.
It's a tame, tame, tame sort of world,
Where you're caught, brought, taught as it twirls.

I'm Darby Crash, a Social Blast, Chaotic Master.

And to finish the explanation in the words of Darby Crash himself (the lead singer of the band and writer of the song): "It all has to do with circles. Everything works in circles. Sometimes you're doing something and then like a year later, it seems like you're doing something else, but you're back at the same point."

I know it's hard to understand, but I get it, lol. It's one of those things that I try to explain and since it comes from my jumbled mind, no one seems to get it but me.

Everything goes in circles and you're always completing cycles and starting new ones. Small cycles, big cycles, always. Continuous.

Mine comes from how I am as a person...I speak from my heart, I do things wholeheartedly, and I trust my inner instincts that are felt from my heart. I reach out from my heart as if reaching out to myself...I take people into my heart where they are forever unconditionally held.

Guess that pretty much is the jest of it.:jiggy:

I got my name on a few job sites. I’ve been known to do crazy things on 40 foot extension ladders and scaffolding. I love heights. What I find interesting about my name on this board is everyone calls me “sane”. :woohoo: Other boards I visit call me “halfee”. :biglaugh: I’ll get used to it. :help:

What I teach is "Spiritual Vigilance", I therefore am a "Vigil", and since I am the teacher, I call my self "Master Vigil," (kind of like, Master Jedi).
