Servant Of God Father Patrick Peyton

Hi Scott, namaste.

It sounds like Father Peyton was a remarkable man. But I'm still curious. There have been many good people who have served God and the Catholic church. What is it about Father Peyton that resonated with you personally so that you would choose to pay homage to him in both your user name and your avatar?

Fyre(my fiesty side spelled different than dictionary version...also heat or fire)

Brigid (Celtic Maiden Goddess of Creativity and also fire...in some definitions she is also considered the Mother, Maiden, Crone while in others she is just a Maiden Goddess)

Ice (my cold response to people who treat others with disrespect...my calm side at times ... opposite of heat and fire to show that there must be a balance of opposites for many things in life to exist.
Balance, but apparently a little more fire than ice. ;) (judging by your username)

Why Brigid? And will you be doing anything special for Imbolc/candlemas/St Brigid's day/groundhog day? (I've been told that Brigid was converted into a Catholic saint when christianity reached the Emerald Isle.)

No*s

Captain Obvious
Well, I almost always choose "canicus" as my handle. It's my name in Latin, and it also serves to indicate my interest in the Classical world. In every other thing I've participated in on the Net...I've chosen this as a handle if I even had a suspicion it would last more than a week or two. Obviously, though, I didn't choose it when signing up for this :).

When I signed onto here, I thought I'd probably be gone in a couple of weeks, which clearly isn't the case :D. As a result, I got a little creative with my username. I signed up as Noos, and the second "o" was an extended ascii character that was an "o" with a diaresis over it (Sane uses the same extended set for his 1/2 symbol). The board didn't take it, though. As a result, it was changed to a "*" :).

I chose No*s, because it is a Hellenistic Greek word for mind, but not entirely the calculating mind. It's also akin to heart. For the calculating aspect, it would be dianoia. The change form mind to heart was gradual, an din Attic and Hellenistic Greek it had contracted to nous, but I chose the uncontracted Doric form (as found in Homer) rather than the Ionic (Attic/Hellenistic), because I also wanted to denote my like of antiquity and desire for a connection with the past.

So, I stayed with that username for those reasons, and now you have me with a name all to yourselves :D.

I used to believe that my Chinese soul was the Tiger.

So on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) for my first time online I tried to log on with

tigah.

Low and behold, someone had that already. So I thought for a bit and came up with this one, t3gah. Why not t1gah which people use the number one to signify an "I" ? Because the connection I had at the time was a T3 leased line on my own domain.

Turns out one of my pets who was adopted by me is named Tiger. :)

I no longer believe in tiger souls or chi, etc.

I've had this 'nickname' or 'username' for about 10 years now.

My name is Richard and I am retro. :)

I tend to be a bit old-fashioned in my tastes. I love the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s. I enjoy the movies of the 40s. I collect antique keys. I drive a VW New Beetle because it reflects the style of the "old" Beetle, so popular in the 60s. (I feel sorry for young people who missed the 60s. It was an amazing decade!)

Thanks for the questions lilithu!

Actually.... I don't have a very good answer.... it was more spiritual guidance than a choice.... something drew me to him and I didn't say no. Father Pat preached in Mass, where I live, so that may have something to do with it.... It would be pretty amazing to see him canonized and to be able to visit his grave which is only 45 min away.

Devotion to Mary was difficult for me as a convert to the Catholic Church, and Father Pat made it look so holy..... showed me that her soul magnifies the Lord.... that was my last stubling block to entering the Church, so spreading the news about Father Pat is how I say "thanks".

Mine is a greek word that literally means "Plague bringer" or "plague carrier" from what I understand. I chose the name because I generally work at night (night crews are called vampires by some). Nosferatu was a word that had it's roots in the word nosophoros and nosferatu was a vampire, besides, I like the vampire myths. The Dr. is because I used the name nosophoros on another board and was told by another poster that I was awarded a doctorate degree in vagueness (which I was purposely being so:)) So I accepted the title of Dr. THUS Dr. Nosophoros was born- MUhahahahaha.

I just liked the sound of mine. And it's not a handle than anyone else uses on any other forum. (I don't have a good memory - so one handle is enough)

Linus is, of course, that loveable, blanket toting, little brother of Lucy from the Charlie Brown comics. My sophpmore year of high school I was in the play, "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" and I played (drumroll please) Linus. The name just kinda stuck with me after that, so I use it on most of my online personas.
So why does Linus have a picture of Homer? (Tho there is a certain similarity in their hairstyles.) ;)
