So why does Linus have a picture of Homer?
Ha ha. Good point! I just really likle the Simpsons is all. There's no other real explanation besides that. Plus for a while I had a Home quote as my signature. But I guess I should do something about that too.

Hope

Princesinha
I chose Hope simply to describe how God has changed me and given me hope in my life. It basically sums up the essence of my faith. :162:

The Voice of Reason

Doctor of Thinkology
One of my favorite subjects of all my time in school and college was logic. I loved it. When I joined, I wanted whoever read my posts to know that any position I take, it is based on my ability (or, inability, as the case may be) to apply logic and rational thought to the question at hand.

Sorta like the biggest guy in the bunch being called "Tiny"? Well it makes more sense now that you put it THAT way! :D

Wow TVOR, that puts a new perspective on it. Since I got here, I've associated your name with... well, the voice of reason - as in the person in the middle trying to calm both sides down. The meanings are not mutually exclusive but they have different connotations. Thanks for the explanation. :)

When I signed onto here, I thought I'd probably be gone in a couple of weeks, which clearly isn't the case :D. As a result, I got a little creative with my username. I signed up as Noos, and the second "o" was an extended ascii character that was an "o" with a diaresis over it (Sane uses the same extended set for his 1/2 symbol). The board didn't take it, though. As a result, it was changed to a "*" :).
I had been wondering about the *

I chose No*s, because it is a Hellenistic Greek word for mind, but not entirely the calculating mind. It's also akin to heart. For the calculating aspect, it would be dianoia. The change form mind to heart was gradual, an din Attic and Hellenistic Greek it had contracted to nous, but I chose the uncontracted Doric form (as found in Homer) rather than the Ionic (Attic/Hellenistic), because I also wanted to denote my like of antiquity and desire for a connection with the past.
The Chinese have kinda the opposite. In Chinese the word for heart, "hsin," doesn't just refer to the heart. A better translation would be mind-heart, or natural human conscience. It is the source of both feelings and thoughts. There is a moral moral component to it. We naturally know within our hsin how we're supposed to act.

So, I stayed with that username for those reasons, and now you have me with a name all to yourselves :D.

Interesting, thanks for the lexical information. How would "hsin" be pronounced?

CaptainXeroid

Following Christ
I work for a large company that starts with an 'X', and good employees are referred to as 'Xeroids'. Years ago, during a training class, I was appointed leader of our group. As I was trying to organize chaos, some said I should be addressed as 'Captain of the Xeroids'. That became CaptainXeroid, seems to suit me, and is always available when I sign up on a website. :)

My username is my Chinese name that was kind of "awarded" to me by some of my students. Originally I had my name, Tom, translated into Chinese - Tang Mu.

Just before the term finished though some of my students said they had a new name they wanted to give me, Long Ge.

Long means 'Dragon' (it should be said in the Chinese "second" tone, for anyone who knows anything about speaking Chinese)
Ge means 'Brother' (should be said in the "fourth" tone, I think)

Dragon Brother - a literal translation - but I think Dragon is for strength and a kind of wonder aspect, and brother is more a sign of respect - it means older brother. I'm only 19 but I'm older than them! haha. They also told me brother because they used to think of me as an older brother sometimes instead of as a teacher. Some of the crusty old foreign teachers here were such gits they really were.

Original Freak

I am the ORIGINAL Freak
Original Freak -- When I was in high school there was a kind of Jock vs freak thing going on. Basically Jocks (especially the football team from the biggest local high school) would go around and beat up any skater, punk, alternapeople, etc. that they saw. Well I was a skater/punkish kind of guy and because of such I got called a freak a lot. It was supposed to be derogitory but I liked it and it stuck with me. The Original part comes from the internet and needing something different to sign on to pages. So I am The Original Freak.

You all have such great usernames and reasons for choosing them. I wish I could tell you how I came up with mine, but the truth is...it just came to me. I have no idea why, but I was sitting here trying to think of a name and...it just came to me.

Felt great when I moved to Calgary, hence became the first GreatCalgarian. Come and live in Calgary, and you will feel the GREATNESS in this great city, an hour drive from the Rocky, from the Dinosaur birth place, beautiful sunshine during Winter, and no hot long summer. Cowboy town, and lots of oil like Texas, but cooler. Lots of churches as well, almost one in a few blocks.

Crystal Red

Episkopos Crystal Red
My username came from a dream, I dreamt I had a daughter, & her name was Crystal Red, (as in Red is her middle name), that's all you need to know from the dream. I never knew what it meant, or why she was called that, but all I know is it's important. You never know, I may well get a daughter & feel the need to call her Crystal Red.

I have one other username I use, I will not divulge that here, I can be traced, I use the two usernames in different places, depending on what self I will show, some thigns are better said by Crystal Red, whereas some are better said by my other name.
