What happens when we die?

And I could answer this with my understanding of biology, caloric intake and metabolism but I will ask... If you do not know, does that then imply god did it?

God did lots of stuff we dont understand... until we understand it and then all of the sudden god did something else?

What are you driving at here?

And no worries mate, I am insulted, ignored and abused all the time... I dont take it seriosly but I appreciate the apology.

Well, then, please enlighten me.

And no, if I don't know, I say I don't know. I make pet theories based on experiences and things I read here and there, but I don't claim them to be fact. I don't believe the gods "created" anything, but that they are as much a part of "creation" as we are. I'm not really a creationist, anyway. To me, the gods are players just as much as us, but their role is one that we cannot understand at the moment. I don't really follow the old way of comprehending the gods; I made my own.

Again, if your assertion is there is a spirit world, it is a positive assertion and requires proof. Please send me a postcard after you're dead, then I'll believe you.

I'm sure spirits can't send postcards, but they can communicate if you are able to hear them. They speak to us in our dreams and some people can feel them and hear them all of the time in waking life. You just have to learn to tune yourself in to another energy wavelength. I guess you could say that they broadcast on a different wave-length from our reality. Some people can pick up on that energy. You should ask them what kind of "postcards" they have gotten over the years.

You are a body/soul unity. When seperated, your soul is in eternity, either in the presence of the creator of your soul, or not in the presence of that creator. One would be glorious, and one would be a hopeless agony.

Glory or agony... guess I'm screwed either way.

I believe that the individual personality is too tied into the brain to survive its death. However, I also believe in a divine seed of consciousness that goes on to be reborn. It remembers me, but it isn't me.

If that's the best you can do, then I'm going to assume you have no real evidence to back up your claim any more than I do. My assertion that there is a spirit world does not require proof because I have none; it is based on my personal experience and some research. Therefore, both our claims are nothing more than pet theories.

You don't know, I don't know. But what separates us is that you are more zealous in what you think than most religious people I've met, but I've noticed that you rarely back up your statements. I'm more than willing to accept the possibility that there is no spirit world, and that you could be right. But it is nothing more than a possibility.

Because we are human, and because all of our knowledge takes the form of perception, i.e. observation, any evidence would have to also be of this kind. We observe that the human body rots after electrical stimulation halts completely in the brain.

There is no observation that anything leaves the body, spiritwise.

So if you are an empiricist, you would have to go with the evidence that we rot, and nothing more, simply because we observe nothing more happens.

If you do believe in an afterworld, you will have to believe without evidence, because evidence is limited to our senses, which are material, and not spiritual.

Do you understand?

Yeah, I get it. Thing is, though, I don't necessarily believe the spirit world to be "afterlife." I believe it is simply another "world" which we cannot perceive.

I totally agree with that. I think that the "afterlife" is just another plane of existance. For some spirits it might be alot like this world, because they want it to be. I think that they can also try connect with our world (hauntings and possessions). Some people claim to hear them and speak with them and I believe they can (at least some of them). I myself can feel them, especially if it is a strong one. I think it might be, like you said, another world, that noone living can see and only some can sense. There isn't really alot of proof though, because belief in spirits is more like a feeling than a fact. It's a clearing of the mind and listening.

There really isn't any solid "proof." The instruments used to study spirits weren't designed with spirits in mind, so they're inadequate. But yeah, proving you feel spirits is like trying to prove you love someone; you can't do it.

I think that when we die, thats it, death is the opposite of life, so when we die we no longer exist as opposed to we exist on another plain. But I do believe that we get essurected as ourselves not anything else,

This is based upon my study of the bible

do you remember what it was like before you were born?

that's what it's like after you die...there is nothing...

And how would you characterize your feelings then? Were you happy or sad? Despondant or hopeful for the future?

Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust.

Done here.
What ordinarily happens when we die is that somebody disposes of our bodies in some way, and other people take our stuff. Some people don't have any stuff working taking, and sometimes people are just left to rot where they fall, but I mean ordinarily. Anything beyond that is speculation or wishful thinking.

I'm always changing my mind, but at the moment I think I'd like to be cremated and have my ashes scattered over Rick Warren.

I was totally with you there... until that however.

You lost me at however. *JM*

I know that death is the opposite of life, so following that train of thought, I also know that life is existance and death is then non existance.

Ecclesiasties 9:5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, 1st half of it.
