Servant of Jesus Christ
The purpose of the Ten Commandments is not so you can try and earn or work your way to heaven. They are to show you that you are a sinner who is guilty before God, so that you can come to Jesus Christ and find forgiveness.
Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
So, you are guilty before God. Now, will you go to Heaven or Hell?
This is where some people get tripped up, thinking that God is too loving to send anyone to Hell. But just like a murderer must be punished by a just judge even though the judge is loving, so a just God must punish wicked sin. Some people also think that by doing good works like going to church or giving money to charity or by trying to be good that these things will make up for sin. Imagine if a murderer stood before a judge and said, judge I know Ive broken the law but I fed a homeless guy and went to a PTA meeting. The judge will tell him that its good to do those things but he broke the law and must pay the penalty.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Guilty sinners will go to Hell. Hell is described as place of literal burning fire, conscious torment, and a place of no second chances. This is where you will go for your sins.
Heres the good news!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God loved you so much that he sent Jesus Christ to come and die on the cross for your sins. Christ took the punishment for our sins on the cross.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him [Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him [Christ].
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So the penalty of sin is death in Hell, but God has offered us the free gift of eternal life. How do we get this gift?
