What Happens When You Die?

Jordan Kurecki

Servant of Jesus Christ
The purpose of the Ten Commandments is not so you can try and earn or work your way to heaven. They are to show you that you are a sinner who is guilty before God, so that you can come to Jesus Christ and find forgiveness.

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

So, you are guilty before God. Now, will you go to Heaven or Hell?
This is where some people get tripped up, thinking that God is too loving to send anyone to Hell. But just like a murderer must be punished by a just judge even though the judge is loving, so a just God must punish wicked sin. Some people also think that by doing good works like going to church or giving money to charity or by “trying to be good” that these things will make up for sin. Imagine if a murderer stood before a judge and said, “judge I know I’ve broken the law but I fed a homeless guy and went to a PTA meeting.” The judge will tell him that it’s good to do those things but he broke the law and must pay the penalty.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Guilty sinners will go to Hell. Hell is described as place of literal burning fire, conscious torment, and a place of no second chances. This is where you will go for your sins.

Here’s the good news!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God loved you so much that he sent Jesus Christ to come and die on the cross for your sins. Christ took the punishment for our sins on the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him [Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him [Christ].

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So the penalty of sin is death in Hell, but God has offered us the free gift of eternal life. How do we get this gift?

There are 2 things that must happen.
1. We must repent *

Acts 3:19**Repent*ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Act 17:30-31**And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to*repent:Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by*that*man whom he hath ordained;*whereof*he hath given assurance unto all*men,*in that he hath raised him from the dead.

The Bible says we must repent. The word repent means a change of mind, heart, or emotion about something, repentance is not ceasing from sin, penance or paying for sin, reformation, or turning over a new leaf. Repentance is simply a change of our heart and attitude towards something.
There are 3 things every person must repent or change their mind, heart, and attitude towards in order to be saved.

The first is Sin

Ezekiel 18:30-31**Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn*yourselves*from all your transgressions(Sins); so iniquity(Sin) shall not be your ruin.Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Mark 8:36-37**For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
No sin is worth dying and going to hell over.*

Jesus said it would be better to cut off your hand than to go into hell with both hands! We must be willing to repent of sin in order to be saved, you must be willing to change your attitude towards sin as something that you desire to be saved from

The 2nd*thing you must repent of is Self

Luke 18:10-14**Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men*are,*extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as*his*eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.I tell you, this man went down to his house justified*rather*than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Romans 10:3*For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

The Pharisee was self-righteous and had a higher view of himself, the publican admitted his sinfulness before God, which is why he received forgiveness. Many people today are ignorant of the perfect righteousness of Christ and go about to establish their own works based righteousness through religion, or “try to be good and not hurt others” but we are all wicked sinners condemned to die. You must repent of self-righteousness in order to be saved.

The 3rd*thing you must repent of is the Savior.

Jesus Christ is the savior, he is also God. If you believe in the false Jesus and not the one of the Bible you cannot be saved:Religions such as the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses teach a false Jesus that is not the Jesus of the Bible. Jesus is perfect and sinless because he is GOD!

Consider these verses:
John 8:23-24**And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am*he,*ye shall die in your sins.

The name “I am” is a name for God in the Exodus chapter 20.

John 10:30-33**I and*my*Father are one.
Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

So three things we must repent of are Sin, Self, and the Savior.

The 2nd*thing we must do is that we must trust on Jesus and ask him to save us.

Romans 10:13*For*whosoever*shall call upon the name of the Lord*shall*be saved.

Acts_16:31*And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Believe on does not simply mean, to believe Jesus existed, it means to trust on or depend upon Jesus to save us from our sins.

Today you can receive the gift of eternal life by repenting of Sin, Self, and the Savior, and by calling upon Jesus Christ to save you.

Consider the prayer of the publican from earlier “be merciful to me a sinner”, cast yourself at the feet of Jesus today and he will save you. We are saved by trusting in Christ alone to save us, He alone can take us to heaven.

John 14:6*Jesus saith unto him, I am*the*way,*the*truth, and*the*life:*no man*cometh unto the Father,*but*by me.

You can pray something like this, it’s not the prayer that saves you though, it’s your trusting in Christ. Getting saved is a one-time thing, not a process, today if you pray and trust Christ, you shall be saved according to Romans 10:13. Calling upon Jesus is not dependent upon the exact words of*a prayer. There are many different ways for a drowning person to call out to a life guard to save them, what saves them is the act of depending on the lifeguard, You are drowning in sin, and Jesus is the lifeguard.
“Dear Jesus I know I am a sinner, please forgive me and please save me, Amen”

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

This is the one where everyone feels good about themselves: but do you know that the bible says if you have hatred in your heart towards someone that you have committed murder? Have you ever hated anyone.

Yes. But I've never killed anybody.
Your god is weird, if he doesn't know the difference between these two concepts.
Or maybe he does, and he just calls the concept normal people call "hate" "killing"?
So then, what does he call actually taking somebodies life?

Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Adultery is when we have sex with someone else’s spouse, but Jesus said if you look on someone to lust after them, that you have committed adultery in your heart. Have you ever looked on someone you were not married to and had lust in your heart?

Yes. But I've never had sex with somebody elses spouse. So again, your god seems to misuse terms left and right.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

So if you died today and stood before God would you be innocent or guilty?

But before you answer that question keep this verse in mind:

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend [or break] in one point, he is guilty of all.

You commit one, you've commited them all?
Holy crap, this god is the most incompetent judge I've ever known!

So no, by his standard, I wouldn't pass his judgment.
But here is the kicker: By his standards, I don't WANT to pass his judgment!
I'm more concerned with living a generally good live and not harming anybody, than that I am concerned with... not looking after somebody with lust or irrelevant stuff like that.

Fortunatelly, there is no reason to believe that this judgment even exists, so it's pretty irrelevant anyway.

The issue is that hatred and lust show what's in your heart, the issue is that your heart is wicked and deceitful, and the reason why one sin is looked at as breaking all of them is because that is how wicked one single sin is, you don't view God as the Holy creator that he is. God is so infinitely good that committing a sin against him is infinitely wicked. the thing that makes sin a sin, is that it is rebellion against God's authority, which is absolutely wicked and deserving of condemnation.

I have.

That's why I shared with people who haven't. Therefore, the crap would be yours.

Actually as you are talking to us - you obviously didn't die.

You had a near death experience - where the brain is still working,

Tunnels of light, and such are known brain reactions, - and the rest is probably your mind trying to ease your coming death by remembering your particular God indoctrination.

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death.
1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

According to these verses the Bible says that the soul that sins (breaks God’s law) shall die. Just like a criminal who steals and breaks the law must be punished, so there is also a punishment for breaking God’s law. This is what many people would refer to as Hell or the Lake of Fire.

Now let’s look at some of the Ten Commandments (God’s law):

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Simply put, this commandment means that nothing in our life is to be more important to us than God; nothing should take the place of God in our lives. Many people do this with money, sex, drugs, friends, family, etc. For me it was sex and drugs. Whatever has the biggest priority in your life is your “god”.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

This verse is talking about making false gods (statues) out of wood, stone, metal, etc.

Even though most people don’t make stone idols today, many people do this very same thing by inventing a god to suit themselves. For example, a homosexual creates his idea of a god that does not think homosexuality is a sin, and a drug addict creates his own idea of a god who doesn’t views illegal drugs as a sin. Many times people create a god who does not punish people in a place called Hell, or they create a god who views sex outside of marriage as being acceptable.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Basically this commandment says to give God one day of our week. This is done today by going to a church. How many times have you not gone to a church because of something else like a sports game, or because you just did not want to get out of bed.

Exodus 20:12  Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Have you always obeyed your dad and mom? But let’s take it even a step further, have you always obeyed with a good attitude? We can outwardly obey while inwardly dishonoring. Have you ever dishonored your parents in any way?

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

This is the one where everyone feels good about themselves: but do you know that the bible says if you have hatred in your heart towards someone that you have committed murder? Have you ever hated anyone

Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Adultery is when we have sex with someone else’s spouse, but Jesus said if you look on someone to lust after them, that you have committed adultery in your heart. Have you ever looked on someone you were not married to and had lust in your heart?

Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Have you ever stolen anything? Even one time?

Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Have you told a lie? Did you know it only takes one lie for you to become a liar? It only takes one murder for someone to become a murderer. Keep the following verse in mind:

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

So if you died today and stood before God would you be innocent or guilty?

But before you answer that question keep this verse in mind:

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend [or break] in one point, he is guilty of all.

Just like it only takes one broken link to ruin a chain, God looks at one little lie as you breaking all of His commandments. Many of us would say that Adolf Hitler is guilty before God and worthy of Hell because of the millions of people he murdered. But if you only told one lie, you are just as guilty before God as Hitler! God does not look at sin the way we do; ALL sins are a SERIOUS thing in the eyes of a perfectly holy God. So would you be innocent or guilty?

The answer is that you are going to be guilty. In fact, this is the whole point of the Ten Commandments (God’s law).

Romans 3:19-20 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

There are 2 things that must happen.
1. We must repent *

Acts 3:19**Repent*ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

And more preaching!

Thou art That
The purpose of the Ten Commandments is not so you can try and earn or work your way to heaven. They are to show you that you are a sinner who is guilty before God, so that you can come to Jesus Christ and find forgiveness.

Actually, there was no such person as 'Jesus Christ' who shed blood for the forgiveness of sin. However, there was a man named Yeshu, who was indeed crucified, but not to save anyone, as the shedding of blood for sin redemption would have been an abhorrence to him. He was crucified on the one hand for blasphemy by the Jewish high priests, and on the other for sedition and treason by the Roman officials. The name 'Jesus' was a corrupted translation from one language to the next:

Yeshua (or Yahushua) bar Yosef (Yeshua, son of Joseph) is the original Aramaic name for Jesus the Nazarene. His parents, siblings, disciples, and followers called him by that name. The name "Jesus" is a misspelling and mispronunciation that resulted from the translation of Yeshua's name after his death, first into the Greek Iesous (pronounced "ee-ay-SUS"), and then from the Greek Iesous into the Latin Iesus. The Latin Iesus ("ee-ay-SUS") wasn't pronounced as "Jesus" with a "J" because the letter "j" didn't come into the English language until the middle of the seventeenth century. The King James Bible, written at the beginning of the seventeenth century, has the name Iesous ("ee-ay-sus"), with no "j." So even in English, no one spoke the name "Jesus" until sometime after the middle of the seventeenth century.

Yeshua before 30 CE

Yeshu was a vegetarian, did not believe in animal sacrifice, let alone human sacrifice or even deicide, did not believe in the virgin birth, nor of bodily resurrection. These doctrines, primarily that of blood sacrifice for sin redemption, were overwritten onto the pure teachings of Yeshu by Rome and St. Paul, as a clever device to lure and convert tens of thousands of Mithraic pagans who already had the promise of eternal life in Mithra. Rome wanted an easy, no brainer method to convert the masses. Intensive and difficult meditation practices had little appeal to the masses, who now only had to kneel and commit themselves, via a few spoken words. to the idol known as 'Jesus' in order to be 'saved'. IOW, no real inner spiritual work was needed. You didn't have to know anything; just believe and bingo!

Not your average Mormon
Did you ever post with regard to the Mormon belief as to what happens after we die?
Sorry if you did and I missed it.
I think that would be much more interesting.

LOL! Yeah, I must have done, because this thread comes up whenever I click on "My Replies." It's such a long thread, though, that it's going to be like finding a needle in a haystack to zero in on it. I'll try, though. :)
Okay, I apparently haven't posted in this thread prior to today's posts, but I did find a response I gave on another very similar thread. So here is the Mormon belief on "What happens when you die?":

When a person dies, his spirit leaves his body but does not die itself. It continues to exist as a cognizant entity apart from its physical tabernacle. It is immediately given what we might describe as preliminary judgment of sorts, and is sent to the Spirit World to await the resurrection of all mankind and the Last Judgement. While there are no physical boundaries to the Spirit World (herding spirits, I imagine, is much like herding cats ;) ), there is, nevertheless, a division into two states or conditions. Depending upon how a person lived his life (regardless of his religion -- or lack of religion -- during mortality), he will find himself either in "Paradise" or in "Prison."

Paradise is a place of peace and rest. People often confuse it with Heaven, although they are not one and the same. Jesus told the repentant thief who hung next to Him on the cross that He would see him on that very day in Paradise, and yet three days later, on Easter morning, He told Mary not to touch Him since He had not yet ascended to His Father in Heaven. The wicked, on the other hand, will find themselves in the Spirit Prison. The Spirit Prison could accurately be described as hell, although it need not be a permanent hell. In 1 Peter, Jesus is said to have preached to the spirits in prison during the three days His body lay in the tomb. Judging from what the scriptures say, then, it appears as if He visited those in Paradise and those in Prison before being resurrected.

The scriptures give no indication (or even the slightest hint, for that matter) that either Paradise or the Spirit Prison have since ceased to exist, and we don't believe they have. There have been so many people live and die without ever having had the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ that it would hardly be either loving or just for God to condemn them all to an eternity in Hell for something over which they had no control. We believe that the missionary work Christ commissioned His Apostles to carry out continues today in the Spirit World. Those who know of His gospel are testifying to those who don't. Many who lived wicked lives out of ignorance will repent and recognize that they need not be destined to an unending punishment. Other people may have lived good lives, doing the best they knew how in the circumstances into which they were born, even though they did not gain an understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ during their lifetimes. At any rate, the gospel will continue to be taught by those who believe to those who died not believing. As a person in the Spirit Prison comes to recognize the power of faith in Christ, he will be released from the Prison and allowed to experience Paradise. By the time of the Last Judgment, when each of us stands before God to be judged, all will have had the chance to hear and understand Christ's message and to either accept or reject the gift of forgivness He offers.
