  • I have learned a lot from rf about religions and religious people,I have also had much entertainment from debates, possibly my favourite was about evolution and a poster not believing a chicken doesn’t have to have sex to lay an egg.

  • The reason I appreciate turtles is because of the movie Rocky, cuff &link stole the scene.

I lost my sanity thanks to RF.

Did you check under your butt? It seems that where a lot of things wind up for most people... (not under your butt, specifically, but their own butts)

possibly my favourite was about evolution and a poster not believing a chicken doesn’t have to have sex to lay an egg

My husband had a coworker who refused to believe that cows do not lay eggs.

Being on RF all this time has shown me that I'm not as smart as I thought I was, and neither is anyone else.

I've learned a lot about different perspectives on RF over the years. One thing I enjoy is that RF posters are, for the most part, clever and informed and discussion and debate here forces me to adapt or adopt my own perspective. It's humbling at times being in such an intelligent community, but immensely rewarding.

here, I find myself jaded by discourse from those with the "I'm right and you're wrong" mentality or approach.

Hi,

Are you then saying you enjoy only speacking to people who agree with everithing your saying ?

Those that don't like to be contradicted would not have liked to speack with Jesus, he often set people straight.

"Jesus said to them: You are mistaken. because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God."

In fairness, Jesus didn't like being contradicted, either.

What @SalixIncendium is saying, I think, is that it becomes exhausting to try to have meaningful conversations with people who insist they cannot be wrong.

No. I'm as saying that I have become disinterested with much of what I read here between people who choose to speak at each other rather than to each other.

There are people here that, rather than listen to and consider what another has to say, simply try to run over them with their own views, atheists and theists alike. If people actually listened to what others say with an open mind and considered that they may not have looked at their own world from that different perspective, they might actually learn something about why others have a different worldview than their own.

I have learned many many lessons at RF, from the staff and moderators being merciful, and the mistakes that I have made, have prevented me from making a lot of serious mistakes in real life! ;)

I have gained an EXTREMELY large quantity of graces , through coincidences linked to things @JustGeorge said, that were NSYNC with inner locutions, signs, wonders, and coincidences I was experiencing in real life.

Some of them within the last 9 days were phenomenal actually. :)

I initially joined RF to learn more about others and what makes them tick regarding their religion and beliefs. I also historically like to say things that promote thought, not to change anyone's beliefs or lack thereof, but just to bring to light an alternate perspective that perhaps hadn't been considered.

I had fun here over the years learning about others and engaging others as such conversation.

While there are a few that appear to have similar purpose to being here, I find myself jaded by discourse from those with the "I'm right and you're wrong" mentality or approach. It may just be my own perception, so I'm creating this poll to sate my curiosity.

What have you gained or hope to gain from being a part of our community?
Hi SI, I learned how much acumen, in either intellect or wisdom, is required to defend a position, on almost anything. I have come to believe that there is such an ambiguity in evidence and perspective, that to really and decisively put forth a sound and compelling argument, one must really have a depth to their understanding. Again, not necessarily in epistemological or empirical argumentation, but profundity in the understanding as to why something is as it is.

As a minority on this site, the multitude of contentions that are raised against my views does force one to dig deep in order to truly penetrate what the issue is at hand (what angle to reply with) - it's not always the obvious, I believe.

I have found not matter how much you wish to share a new Message from God, there are just people that do not want to talk about it.

:D;):)

Thus I am gaining an understanding of my own self, what I have to change to become a better person.

I have lost some self, but not enough.

I stumbled across Religious Forums in an online search a couple of months ago, and I'm glad I found it. It took me a while to settle into a routine and find my bearings, because this is the first secular forum that I've ever joined. I had joined a couple of Christian forums in the past, and it was a miserable experience. Before I joined RF, I wasn't used to being allowed to express my personal disgust towards the Christian God or reveal that I'm a Sensitive and I believe in the paranormal, and I'm a paranormal investigator.

On a side note, I enjoy talking to the people here who aren't Christians, whether they're non-theists or they follow a non-Christian religion. I've learned that these people are kinder and more considerate towards me than the Christians I've encountered online.

My husband had a coworker who refused to believe that cows do not lay eggs.

They don't?
I thought their eggs looked like miniature cows that can move and walk around and stuff...

I had a guy refuse to believe that it took the human body 18-24hours to digest a meal. His reasoning? I poop after I eat, therefore it's the same meal.

Does that mean that guy eats his own poop and never has to buy groceries?
