They don't?
I thought their eggs looked like miniature cows that can move and walk around and stuff...
I'm only familiar with bacon seeds. Not cow eggs.

Does that mean that guy eats his own poop and never has to buy groceries?

Gods I hope not.

I can't say it is purely entertaining (one of my votes), but the proof that many who have religious beliefs are often entrenched in such, so as to not even admit any evidence that might impinge on such beliefs, has been shown to me, and being rather disappointing, but then I knew this was in the nature of religions and often apparent from comments expressed. Difficult to know how much of what we see here is representative of any particular belief in the wider world though - which of course I don't assume.

If I gain anything, it is probably from any non-religious threads.

Lol. Probably the best post in this thread. :)
Thank you. Im just telling the truth...
I was in an actual mental hospital at one point. I got along great with most everyone just a bit too well and felt just a bit too comfortable. I doubt I'm sane. A sane person wouldn't have got along with the folk I did so easily.

I got you my friend. I got you. I am right there beside you.

I initially joined RF to learn more about others and what makes them tick regarding their religion and beliefs. I also historically like to say things that promote thought, not to change anyone's beliefs or lack thereof, but just to bring to light an alternate perspective that perhaps hadn't been considered.

I had fun here over the years learning about others and engaging others as such conversation.

While there are a few that appear to have similar purpose to being here, I find myself jaded by discourse from those with the "I'm right and you're wrong" mentality or approach. It may just be my own perception, so I'm creating this poll to sate my curiosity.

What have you gained or hope to gain from being a part of our community?

None of the poll options really fit. I like discussions, not arguments or "serious debate," the kind where you're expected to be in full-on documentary exposition. I like the kind of discussions where I learn something new, whether informational, or someone's personal experiences, ideas, thoughts, especially if they're very different from mine. But my mind hasn't been changed in any way here, to be honest. That happened at a different forum, though, so it's definitely possible for someone to arrive here and then leave with very different beliefs. It takes the right words, the right ideas, at the right time, but it does happen.

I'm similar to you. I have learned some about human behaviour, and that is mainly that entrenchment (if that's even the right word) is powerful. I didn't realise just how closed-minded some folks are until coming here. As you phrased it, the 'I'm right and you're wrong' attitude from all sides. So I watch that stuff as an outsider. 50 shades of grey for me.

I also came originally just to be a voice, as Hindus don't have many voices at places like this. I hope that in some small way I've been helpful to somebody at some time. I think that's true mostly only for newcomers to Hinduism, or genuinely curious folks. As to the old-time scholarly type Hindus here, I'm sure I have never been of any help, as they know far more than me.

As a person who wasn't born into Hinduism, I have learned a lot from other Hindus in my time on RF.

In fairness, Jesus didn't like being contradicted, either.

What @SalixIncendium is saying, I think, is that it becomes exhausting to try to have meaningful conversations with people who insist they cannot be wrong.

Hi,

The term used by the O.P. was "jaded".
This indicates that any contradiction make him, tired and wears him out, it also has the connotation of making him lose interest in the conversion and that he become bored with the person that he's conversing with.

Although your right in saying that nobody likes to be contradicted -simply because we all like to, always be right- I do not know of any example where the above definition of being jaded applies to Jesus.

I do believe that contradiction are part of any healty conversation, and assure you that I expect to be contradicted on this opinion as well, should this be the case I assure you, I will not be jaded, but deal with it amiably.

No. I'm as saying that I have become disinterested with much of what I read here between people who choose to speak at each other rather than to each other.

There are people here that, rather than listen to and consider what another has to say, simply try to run over them with their own views, atheists and theists alike. If people actually listened to what others say with an open mind and considered that they may not have looked at their own world from that different perspective, they might actually learn something about why others have a different worldview than their own.

Hi,
I'm happy to hear that, thank you for explaining it.

I've learned that I can still learn.

I've always enjoyed interaction with others especially from different backgrounds and views, even if we don't agree with each other. In fact, interacting with people who constantly agree with you on everything is maddening.

I think Salix sufficiently explained himself here. He wasn't referring to any and all opposing opinion ever being presented. He was referring to an impression that has built up over many similar experiences with people who cannot even ponder the possibility that they might be mistaken.

Hi,
That is correct, I was referring to the initial comment, before the qualification was made.

We are in the end times. End times began, according to Revelation, with the attack of Babylon (war in Iraq). God will punish us for the war in Iraq by destroying the whole world and everyone and everything in it.

Because we are headed toward tough times, many will abandon their religion.

God knows that many have weak reasons for believing in Him.

God has not only sent prophets (in modern times, in our own lifetime) to warn us not to go to war with Iraq, God has also assigned certain people tasks. One task is to strengthen people's faith. God has made it clear that people will not change their views and strengthen their faith, unless they are urged to think more about their faith.

It is the goal of God's chosen ones, to make people think about their lame reasons for believing in God, and that will give them new reasons and stronger convictions to believe.

God doesn't allow his chosen ones (including the prophets of God) to tell others that he has chosen them. This would result in people worshipping God's chosen ones and prophets. God insists that only He (God) should be worshipped. Consequently, no one realizes that they are chatting with God's chosen ones, and that it is God's will to strengthen their beliefs.

Discussion strengthens beliefs.

We need strong beliefs for the difficult and deadly times ahead.

I cannot state what my role is in all of this. God won't let me.

I've known many people who were right even though they were wrong (and knew it).
