What if You Loved Someone...Would You Let Them Read Your Mind?

What if you loved someone but you loved them in a way you had no words to express: Would you let them read your mind if only just once so that they could find out exactly how you felt about them -- even though they would then be able to read the entire contents of your mind? Or would you not?

I don't see how that could work given the nature of experience and perception. I think it gives individuals far too much credit in terms of their awareness of how they perceive and experience the world around them. And I think it ignores that third-party accounts are always going to be askew from the original.

I don't see how it would actually work in real life either, Quint. But that's as far from the point as San Francisco and New York City. This is just a silly little "Let's pretend..." exercise.

Oh, I know. But my brain can't wrap itself around it, and just gets some sort of error.

EDIT: I end up going "no" because of the impossibility of it. It'd be a "okay, considering I don't know exactly what I think, you won't either by the time you're done. There's good odds this will simply wreck everything."

No way, there is a time and place we both need our freedom, and love is letting each other have their freedom.

So you're saying that someone reading your mind would destroy your freedom? Precisely how does that work?

If they really would benefit then I would consider it, but why do you ask such painful questions? Are you trying to torture us?

Brilliant answer, methinks! The determing question, so far as I myself would be concerned, is whether the beloved would benefit from reading his or her lover's mind. Thanks, Brick!

YES! ummm...I mean...why on earth would you suspect such a thing of little old me?

Even if they could simply read your mind, you still couldn't communicate your feeling of love, because feelings are not thoughts.

Let's pretend for the sake of having some fun that that just ain't so! And that there are no obstacles that would prevent a mind reader from reading both thoughts and emotions. Ok? :D

Well not being rude, having a you know what in the toilet is or can be a private affair, and we all do think of certain things that the other would like to hear or know, and because we are all like that we do like our privacy, as I said there is a time and place for everything.

You use your money to buy privacy because during most of your life you aren't allowed to be normal. Johnny Depp

If I could guarantee that they'd only see the good stuff, yes!! But I think there's too much dirt in there, might not wanna risk it. Sorry @Heavens (if you ever come back online).

Sunstone, if I could be real with you for a minute, I’d totally allow her that, but the individual with whom I am in love, she would not be able to handle the entire contents of the swirling torrent of emotion that is my inner mind....believe you me.

The giant cat avatar may have clued me in!

If there are people with the gift of telepathy (and there may be) then I accept that they cannot help reading the thoughts of others. Its a beautiful gift and I don't blame them for keeping it quiet. Such people probably are the kind who pretend to have migraines and somehow always win at playing chess.
