I would probably just think "Heh, thought so." And my plans wouldn't really change.

And you have a great point. For those who believe in salvation after this life, why would it hurt to help the place we live in now? If you believe Karma or Salvation, I think you'd get some major points for the afterlife if you help the world we live in now.

I think people would realize just how short life is. We only have a limited amount of time to experience the world and leave our mark on it. I don't believe immortality or "life after death" is necessarily living forever or continuing on in another plane of existence. I believe it is living on through future generations. If we make a difference in the world, that difference could affect future generations.

Think about it. Saving one tree could help eventually repopulate a forest torn down for logging, giving the Earth a little bit more time to live.
Donating money to an inner city school could result in the chance for some bright kid to cure cancer.
Giving food to a homeless person could help keep them going for just one more day, and who knows? They could find a job and a place to stay and become a contributing member of society.
Donating blood could save someone's life, whose future could possibly be beneficial to the future of our planet.

Nobody knows how much one good deed could do, and how far it could go. What I do know is that if my good deed results in something good, I will have created a ripple effect, influencing more good deeds. In that way, my one action will live on forever.
