To my understanding the soul is " The Real You ". Life cannot exist without the soul, our bodies houses the soul. Our bodies eventually dies, but the soul remains.
According to scripture the soul does Not remain, but is mortal.
'The soul that sins dies'. - Ezekiel 18:4,20
According to Scripture the soul is "The Real You" because at creation Adam became a living soul. Adam did not posses a soul, or come to have a soul.
According to Genesis 2:7 it was not until God breathed the breath of life into Adam that Adam became a living soul or life. -aka The Real Adam.
At death, Adam became a dead soul or lifeless soul. From dust to dust.
Psalm 36:9>with God is the fountain of life..... So, when Adam was first created
Adam was inanimate life matter. God's breathed, superimposed life on Adam's inanimate life, in order for Adam to become alive or a living soul.
Adam was not like a table or a rock coming to life because life only comes from already existing life.
Adam's Creator does not posses a separate soul, so why should we?
Psalm 11:5 b says about God that the one that loves violence his soul hates.
If the soul remained, then what would be the point of having a resurrection from the dead if the remaining soul was not dead?
Don't the dead sleep in death's deep sleep:
[Ecc 9v5; Psalm 6v5;13v3;115v17;146v4; John 11vs11-14;Daniel 12v2,13]
Those of Psalm 92:7 face more than death but destruction or annihilation.
Satan also faces being destroyed.- Hebrews 2:14 B.
Satan is not immortal. There will be nothing that will remain of Satan.
As God gifted or granted Jesus at John 5:26 to have life within or immortality, so God will give immortal life only to those who prove faithful for heavenly life, and God will give everlasting or eternal life to faithful ones on earth during Jesus peaceful 1000-year rule over earth when death will be no more.
Rev 21:4,5.
