What is a true Christian?

You'll get a lot of varied answers on this thread. My reply is pretty vague, as I don't want to judge anyone who calls him or herself a Christian: A Christian is someone who follows Jesus' commands to best of his or her ability. Some of His commands: Love your neighbor as yourself. Love God with all your heart, your soul, you strength and your spirit. Love and pray for those who do you wrong. Forgive those who ask. Have mercy on all, so you will be shown mercy as well. You will be judged in the same manner as you judge others. And on and on.

Yes but many Christians would never accept me as being a Christian even though I believe and follow his teachings because I don't believe in the blood atonement or resurrection.

As can be seen in the argueing between christians and their sects, the true definition can't be agreed upon. What appears to really matter is the individual definition that the individual accepts for themselves.
Though it would appear a christian is a believer in christ and his teachings that tries to follow his example to the best of their ability. This could include protestants, mormons, catholics, etc.
However, not all of these groups agree the other is really a 'christian'.
Funny stuff

This has been a source of disagreement from the very beginning of the religion. You are not likely to get an answer now. At least you wont be burned at the stake for asking though.

Jesus teachings on life and love can be very beneficial to everyone...even those who may be complete athiests or people who dont even believe Christ was a real person.

the Greek Scriptures lay out the precepts, obligations and requirements of a christian. So its really the scritpures themselves who make the determination of who is practicing correctly and who is not.

Depends who you ask. I don't consider plenty of people Christians regardless of what they call themselves. In general, most in the Protestant/Catholic tradition is deemed "Christian".

I don't think there is such a thing as a "real christian". Christianity itself is a mere umbrella term. There can only be a good [insert denominational title]

Where does one get such a certification?
