For a couple of years now, I have liked horror movies, but I have yet to fin any truely horrifying
movies. Can you tell me what is the scariest movie that you
have seen, so I can try new references of movies

The scariest movie I've ever seen was House of Wax last summer. It was on the television and I watched it all by myself at night though, so that might be why I found it so scary...

I liked the Saw movies, but I didn't really find them to be scary, just gross... :D Some people might think they are scary though.

The Beast with Five Fingers . My cousin took me to see that movie when I was seven years old and it scared the holy living **** out of me iIhad nightmares over that thing for 10 years afterwards I whistled in the dark until I got out of high school (because I was afraid) I killed people in Vietnam but I still will not go to a scary movie. The bottom line is do not let your children see bad movies until they are at least 13 and even then it may be too soon for some.

I used to adore horror movies of all kinds, but alas, movies do not scare me any more. I think most that are designed to scare you are simply ridiculous and based on ideas that I no longer believe in therefore the psychology involved has no effect.

Then you get into the sicko movies like the Saw series. These aren't scary, per se, but more shock-shlock gore-fests.

The only movies that had any impact on me when I was younger were The Exorcist and Alien. I saw both at the theater and still enjoy them to this day -- but neither scare me any more. When I was 16 though... the Exorcist did get to me... but sadly... that was a very long time ago.

The Alien movies were pretty scarey, and as a kid I remember some Twilight Zone or Outer Limits shows that kept me awake:
Dundee Planet -- I don't remember much about it, but it was scarey. The one with the gremlin on the wing of the plane, and the one with a Venus probe and a really creepy-looking Venusian.

I was still very young when the Outer Limits hit and I remember one where a man of light came through the screen of the person he was conversing with ... at exactly the same moment when a cat knocked over the garbage can on the back porch. I think my mom and I both had to change our underwear -- after we stopped shaking. (PS: The Outer Limits original series had some pretty bizarre stories and quite scary for the time. The remake of the series was just fluffy crap.)

Done here.
Halloween - the first one. In fact, it's about the only scary movie I've ever seen.

Most of the time, I don't think "scary" movies are scary; I just think they're kind of gross. I did kind of like The Shining, though -- I thought it was hilarious.

Edit: Once when I was about ten years old I stayed up late after everybody else had gone to bed and watched some old black and white vampire movie that scared me witless, but I don't remember what it was. I pulled all the curtains closed and crawled under a blanket, but I couldn't stop watching.

I have the same problem - I love horror movies, but they don't scare me anymore. Ever since I became a parent, reality is what really scares me.

But I have to say, I think it largely depends on what scares you as an individual. For example, my friend can watch movies about ghosts and zombies without batting an eye, but refused to go see Open Water, because she found the premise personally horrifying. I had the same reaction to Funny Games, which, as I hear it, was super lame and not scary at all, but I refused to go see it because it depicts (again, as a parent) one of my worst nightmares.

Perhaps the infamous Nosferatu?

Refer Madness -- I couldn't sleep the night I saw it.

Scared straight maybe  Reefer Madness

My dr gave me pain medication and a couple of years ago and I had a bad reaction to it, I watched the ' Rocky Horror Picture Show' in Irish and it scared the bejesus out of me. I was actually afraid to watch it again for years. :biglaugh:

I thought the original (1963 or something like that) "The Haunting" was scary. It scared me out of my wits when I saw it as a teenager and was almost as scared when I saw it again years later. The remake of a few years ago was so lame it was laughable.

"Expelled" is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen, but mostly because I know how many people probably actually think it's true.

As far as actual scary movies, "The Ring" is the only one that ever actually scared me.
