To breed and help ensure survival of the species
I kept it simple on purpose - sighNo it isn't. Its to ensure the survival of genetic information currently contained by the species. BY having children you're eventually going to create a new species, for example. Furthermore, by having children at the wrong time, you might cause famine or death and lead to the species dying out. So sometimes its about sacrifice. So its not as simple as your statement.
