What is the ultimate goal of practicing your religion/philosophy?

Be your own guru
I don't believe in God myself. I believe in an eternal source of intellect.
Property of a thing vs. intellect. Properties of things exist in themselves, intellect needs a container.
A brain, brain needs a body, body needs blood, blood needs oxygen, and so on.
My vote is for property of thing (since I take 'physical energy' as the thing which constitutes all things in the universe).

Why does he want to believe false things?
If you only want to believe as many true things as possible, you should believe everything as that would include all true things.
If you only want to believe as few false things as possible, you should believe nothing as that would exclude all false things.
But if you want to do both, you really have to distinguish. In that you'll most probably fail every now and then you might believe a false thing in your effort to maximise the true things. It is an ongoing goal to maximise believe in true things while minimising belief in false things.

To me it takes intellect to create intellect therefore intellect is a default nature of existence. Intellect can take on many forms. But to put together something functional and that generates its own meanings, and purposes requires intellect.

Without memory there is no reason.
Without reason there is no justification.
Without justification there is no valid purpose.
Without purpose there is aimlessness.
Purpose requires meaning.
Meaning can take on significance.
Significance takes on agreement, or discord.
Agreement takes on power.
Discord takes on power.
Power takes on action.
Action brings punishment or reward.
Reward brings on future gainfulness.
Punishment is destructive, or hard lessons.
Gainfulness brings on potential for goodness, neutrality or it's contrary force.
Goodness brings on prosperity.
Prosperity brings on hope, rest and future challenges.
Future challenges must be met or consequences happen.
Future challenges brings on opportunity.
Opportunity brings on growth.
Growth brings on the need for wisdom.
Wisdom brings joy, peace and contentment.
Foolishness brings on slavery, destruction and oppression.
Joy grows love.
Love grows appreciation.
Appreciation grows relationships.
Relationships take on a life of their own.
Life brings on future generations.
Life brings on memories.

From memory everything springs forth. This is no mindless, incidental process that brings memory into being.

Without wisdom we are slaves to knowledge, and power. Wisdom is far greater than knowledge. Knowledge is no less important. Can't have one without the other. Wisdom and knowledge are brothers in arms. Wisdom is the greatest form of knowledge. It's knowing what to do with what you learn. This is no accident. This is no byproduct of mindless forces.

If it were all a journey that happened by the result of mindless processes? Then it was worth it anyway.

It is aimless. We give it a purpose ourselves.
There are unavoidable facts and truths that impose themselves upon all life. Such things that are common to all; values vs. vices, things that are within one's power to do, things that are beyond control, problems to be solved, facts to be dealt with, necessary relationships vs frivolous pursuits. There's the good side of good, the bad side of good, and bad things to be dealt with. There are things that bring pain, damage, suffering, or hubris, vanity, and ego and things that produce, joy, love, and peace and humility, care, and appreciation. People have responsibilities they embrace, or neglect. One's own purposes are perhaps possible in their own free time.

Loving God and my neighbor as myself.
For me it is generally to make a quality life for myself and the people I care about, and, if I'm able to, make people I don't know happy as well.

Quality of life not necessarily in sustenance, but in a balance of peace of mind and sustenance.

How about you?
There are several aspects, all very important.

The first is drawing closer to God. It is important to have something in one's life that is greater than one's self. Further, when I look at the natural world, I'm often moved to awe and (while this isn't proof) I sense agency behind it. It is only natural that I respond to this with worship.

The second is my desire to become a better person, to develop the virtues, to love my neighbor as myself. While I'll never be perfect, my religion gives me an ideal to shoot for, and by doing so, I improve, becoming a better version of myself.

The third is that by being part of a close knit religious community where we all care about each other, the quality of my life is improved. We are healthier, happier, longer lived, and have a buffer against anxiety and depression when we are involved in such religious communities.

For humanity to become a Type 5 civilization on the Kardashev scale.

"A Type V civilization would be advanced enough to to escape their universe of origin and explore the multiverse. Such a civilization would have mastered technology to a point where they could simulate or build a custom universe. They will have mastered the new laws of physics and have almost complete control over the fabric of reality. Now, humanity is basically impossible to destroy by its own inhabitants, which has reached the decillions."

A very good question which surprisingly I have thought nothing about in any great depth. I find it impossible to get my head around heavenly ideas.
I would have answered along the lines of solving the mysteries of existence or something but the simplicity of @The Sum of Awe 's OP struck me as both beautiful and desirable. Quality of life, that will do me just fine.

Sounds like an absolute nightmare for any other life in the cosmos
