What is wrong with those people who smoke cigarettes?

Deathbydefault

What is wrong with those people who smoke cigarettes? If smoking tobacco relaxes one, then is it like a drug? The more you take it, the more you need it?

I smoke to stay calm, which is beneficial for myself and others. Drug or not, I don't know or care.
It's my body to destroy, after all. The personal consequences for my actions are mine to deal with alone.
I keep my bad habits away from family and those who don't share them.
Once weed becomes legal here, I'll switch to that. Until then, it's a pack a day.

Probably because chimneys are not fat either.

However, you have a good point. Fighting smoke, while advertising family package triple burgers with fries for a few dollars, looks strange.

By the same token I've known plenty of smokers who perpetuate fat shaming claiming that it's 'tough love' for the good of the 'fatties' and society.

Living From the Heart.
I smoke a pipe about three times a week and I also smoke cigars(I started early too !).

My dad told me that smoking cigarettes helped keep him sane during his time as a soldier during WW2.

As for the negative side of smoking tobacco, I would fire a back hand volley across the court and say in return that most of what we eat and drink carries a high risk ! I always check the labels !

Q. What is wrong with those people who smoke cigarettes?

A. They often have no consideration of others. In public they pollute and stink up the air everyone else has to breath.

Tell me about it. If they don't care about themselves, why would they care about others? If they can't lead themselves, how can they lead others?

Some people just smoke in front you. I had one person ask me if I mind if they smoke in front of me and I said: yes, that person still smoked in front of me.

I myself am adamantly straight-edge (as in no drugs except caffeine shhhh and no alcohol for moi), but I can't say the same for most of my family. At this point in time I often feel a sense of sympathy for smokers, because it's often done as a way to handle stress and considering cigarettes contain so many addictive chemicals I can imagine it'd be a difficult habit to kick.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.

If this was in a Health forum, I'd vehemently agree with you. Smoking is bad for your health (and others around you).

But since it's in a religious debates forum, I will vehemently disagree. No god exists who could tell you whether or not to smoke.

Actually, the perfect answer to "Mind if I smoke?" is to look at them with a bored expression and say in an equally bored tone, "Heck, I don't care if you burst into flames." That will normally unsettle them enough so they move away from you.

I'm very considerate about other people as smoking has been frowned on here for about 20 years. That said, there was one time I was walking down a street with only one other person walking in my direction and no one behind me. The person wandering past began flapping their arms as if they were about to take flight and also began a very rude commentary. That time, in my best AM radio announcer voice, I loudly proclaimed, "If you take deeper breaths you will die faster. Hopefully." Oddly, they didn't respond to that nugget.

I think it is the duty of a Muslim to refrain from smoking because tobacco is harmful for ones health. Any object that is harmful for body is not accepted to use in Islam.

As surprising as this might be to you... this is a thread I can actually get behind. Smoking is a disgusting habit that adversely affects the health of people not indulging in it.

What about mescaline? I recommended it to young atheists in order to get a feeling of altered consciousness, freedom, spirituality and God. I tried it when I was in college (went to a liberal college), although not to find God, but to rebel and learn about drugs firsthand and still remember the experiences.

Aldous Huxley, author of A Brave New World, wrote a book on it. BTW, his grandfather, Thomas Henry Huxley defended Charles Darwin from critics ha ha.

The interesting thing about this, is the day you made this thread was the day I bought a pack of cigs and it was the first pack of cigs I bought in over a year, I kid you not. What are the odds of that timing?

That is how Allah usually speaks to me is through coincidence, and this coincidence really speaks to me :)

Allah isn't happy about my purchase.

Yup, I gave up smoking about 15 years ago for my wife's sake and instantly put on weight, the correlation is obvious, but then she also made me give up tasty food ... :(

This may help you to lose weight. Once you wake up, then be sure to drink plenty of water before eating anything. At least 2 cups or 16 oz. This way your body won't retain water and it will metabolize your food efficiently. If you can cut a few calories here and there or exercise more to burn more calories than you take in, then you should be able to lose pounds and not worry about your body storing food.
