What is your God?

Think out the box for at least a min. Years ago I watched an UU sermon online. Majority of members are either atheist to one degree or another and/or just don't identify with organized religion.

The pastor described God by saying if there are a list of value(s) you want to have or strengthen that you would "call to" what would they be?

What are your most important values that in your worse moment you'd need them most?

God-quisi idiom not a man in the sky.

Core Values List: Over 200 Personal Values to Live By Today

There are 200 "gods" so I couldn't list them all.

In my worse moment, I'd call to:

Freedom
Sound mind
Expression
Strength
Vitality

What are your gods?

Inside the box, we can go with the flow, and ride every band wagon with the majority. It's cold and lonely outside of the box, but we live by the strength of our intellects. My eyes get wide, tears stream down my cheeks.....I'm doomed (living by my wits). Help....let me back into the box again.

In the box, we'd follow President W. Bush's unprovoked attack on Iraq, and kill a million Iraqis (thou shalt not kill)(turn the other cheek) while telling the world that we're "defending America" and "fighting the Axis of evil." Apparently, in the box we'd have to defy God's commandments in Revelation (not to attack Iraq).

Outside the box, we can think for ourselves, and not be party to a lynch mob. Our mob mentality is removed.

In order to follow God, we have to stop following men.

This makes perfect sense in an inclusive religious ceremony where you're asking people to reflect on core values.
Outside of that context, I'd just call them core values.

Also...not the right target audience for UU, so perhaps those things are linked...lol

Shrugs. I'd hope readers pick up context before content. Works out better that way but doesn't always work. A few get it. I'd say not so much just core values but those specific values your life is literally governed by. Maybe left to one or two. Three at most.

Adaptability
Calm
Consistency
Acceptance

I don't think about these things in terms of single words, etc, mostly, so I'm possibly not being especially accurate, but they are the ones that come to mind.
