What kind of mattress do you sleep on

I had to strip the bed to find the brand name, but I planned on washing the sheets today anyway.

It's a twin Beautyrest Black. It came with the apartment and was new and still in the plastic when I moved in.

Right now I'm sleeping on the ground. Well actually there's a folded blanket and the floor of the tent beneath me.

I'm camping next to a river right now so it's mostly sand, so no need for a camping pad.
It still blows my mind a little that I can be laying here in my tent, listening to the crickets, and posting on RF.
This is an option I've been considering when my lease is up. Truth be told, you've kind of inspired me.

I suppose it's dependent on where I land after the first of the year.

The mattress in my apartment is a bit hard. In this country, hard mattresses are the norm. Long ago, the people slept on their floors. Now that they have mattresses, they want their mattresses to be kind of like their floors.
Makes sense. Why sleep on the floor when I can pay $800 or so every 7 or 8 years and feel like I'm sleeping on the floor?

'We should change our mattresses around every eight years; this is for hygiene purposes mainly. Within that eight years, you will have applied the equivalent of a bathtub full of sweat and the weight of a dachshund in dead skin cells to the mattress,'

Lovely visual.

*reworks budget to include a monthly mattress purchase*

That's expensive.

A quick scan of that link reveals that all the "experts" that say we need to get new mattresses are from companies that sell mattresses. Odd, that. ;)

A few weeks ago I switched from inflatable mattress to portable massage table. Its terrifically firm and folds out of the way. It also never goes flat, because its already flat.

It is isn't it. But humans do sweat and do discard cells and mattresses do end up gross after a few years. Imagine wearing the same clothes, unwashed, for a few years. Nice.

"We lose around half a pint of fluid every night and shed about a pound of dead skin cells each year."
