Speaking as an ex-Christian, I no longer believe that my former evangelical Christian beliefs are more correct than other peoples' beliefs and answers. Admittedly, I feel rather foolish whenever I think about all the years I wasted holding onto a religious belief that caused me relentless anguish and disappointment in my life. I feel like I'm an ideal example of how deeply a person can be brainwashed and controlled by a religion, whether it is Christianity or some other religion or spiritual belief.
BUT, you know better than most people in the world what it's like to be set free from that sort of mind-poisoning world-view. And having been set free of it, you know that it's always POSSIBLE. And possible for others, too. These are significant things to know! Valuable things. Things that others can gain value from hearing! Honestly, I am feeling better about life just having read your post. Because you've reminded me that we can be set free from those kinds of poisonous delusions that we sometimes get raised with, or otherwise become infected by. And we can take ourselves back from those who sought to enslave us.
If I have learned anything from my personal exodus from Christianity, it's for me to be sympathetic and not be judgmental towards someone who's entrapped in a religious cult, and they can't see the forest for the trees. I feel like leaving Christianity and forsaking my Christian faith was the best decision that I've ever made for myself and for my mental health. I don't regret my decision, but I wish I had done this years ago because I would have spared myself several years of deepened anguish, heartache and disappointment.
Amen, brother.

For me it was alcoholism. But both are certainly addictions of a kind. And as much as I find drunks annoying now days, like you, I also have a very deep compassion for them. Because I know the abysmal reality they are living in, and that they are so desperately trying to ignore. Even as every attempt only makes it all worse. And I also know that most of them will never find their way out. They will die in their addiction, after having driven everything and everyone they love, away.

I was not harmed by religion in the way that you were. So I don't feel the need to be quite so compassionate toward the 'religion addicts'. But I do understand the dynamics of it, I think, and can be compassionate toward them in that regard. The same way I would still give a drunk or drug addict a few dollars if they asked me, even though I know they will only use it to feed their addiction. Because I know what it's like to be trapped in that unrelenting desire, and not be able to satiate it. It is it's own kind of hell.

Great post!

What makes you believe your answers and understanding is more correct than other peoples beliefs and answers?

Personally I do not believe my faith or beliefs are the only one that can be correct.

Not everything is based on direct evidence. A lot of things are left up to the interpretation of what the evidence may mean. If there are good results coming from the interpretations then there is probably some truth to it.

Beliefs that are convictions may give someone excitement, enthusiasm, peace, and hope, but when there is no way to verify beliefs they can't be considered knowledge.

Knowledge produces results. Beliefs are like spinning your wheels without getting anywhere.

Experiences do try to teach things, and every experience is trying to teach something to a person. I often can't compare my experiences to everyone else's.

Faith is having confidence toward something, for that I try to stick to knowledge and gaining wisdom.

Wisdom is only correct if it brings good results.

I don't always compare my answers to everyone else's. Especially when my experiences have nothing in common with other people.

So I have the conviction that there's no one way of being correct, and no one way of being wrong.

Comparison seems useless. And communicating what I do know has language barriers to it. Some things are binary, but most things are not.

One aspect of this is how you define 'truth'.

I use the 'correspondence' definition of truth ─ that truth is a quality of statements and that a statement is true to the extent that it corresponds with / accurately reflects objective reality. (And 'objective reality' is the world external to the self, nature, which we know about through our senses.)

We have the benefit of a modern understanding of nature, and we don't find anything supernatural there. We only find the supernatural in individual brains, an internal rather than an external set of phenomena, and we also find supernatural beliefs to be heavily dependent on culture ─ which further underlines their subjective nature.

However, outside this sentence there are no absolute statements about external reality. We know about it by exploring it with reasoned skeptical enquiry, in the case of science empiricism and induction, so nothing protects any of our conclusions from unknown unknowns. Thus what is true changes with time and culture.

But I still find the idea of an objective test for truth to be very valuable.

I don't concern myself with such a thing. I just have my beliefs, understanding and provide answers to the best of my abilities.

But they can hold truth, may it be on different levels than your Christian faith?

Some things are either right or wrong.
Did God send Jesus, His Son, to earth to die on a cross and take the results of our sins onto Himself so that we could accept that for ourselves and receive forgiveness for our sins?
Yes, no? Black, white?

According to the Bible yes, According to other scriptures no :)

Maybe, maybe not. But isn't the message more important than debates about the nature of the messenger? If we all followed Christ's message of brotherly love, would it matter whether he was the Son of God, or the Son of Man - as he said he was - so long as we do as he bid his disciples, and "love each other, as I have loved you"?

Personally I do not believe my faith or beliefs are the only one that can be correct.

Firstly, I only believe in the One True God (singular). This Supreme Being has no equal and is void of any other personalities. This is a very important aspect in my beliefs and is the main reason for questioning or doubting other beliefs and answers.

Secondly, is the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34 NIV), which technically began at the birth of the only begotten son of the One True God. In short, these verses state that God will write His laws and ways into my mind and that I have no need to be taught by any other human being or supposed gods. However, since the Anointed or God's only begotten is in his glorified state, he has been given the authority to accomplish this, as well.

Thirdly, through checks and balances I have been able to verify or disprove the inspirations given to me. Because the adversary of God has powers (as well) and can be a powerful influence to reckon with. Does this mean that I have all the answers? No, it doesn't! I'm human and not perfect. But, with the help of my God and His Son, I have a better understanding today than I had in the past. So, can I agree with others, related to their beliefs? Sure. It just depends on what those beliefs are…

Note: The content supplied is my opinion, related to the question asked.

If the gospel message is to "love each other, as I have loved you" then to obey that message is to obey the gospel even if we do not believe Jesus died for our sins or even if we have not heard of Jesus.
It is true that love is greater than faith and hope and that Jesus said to love but imo the gospel message is more than that and is tied up in what Jesus did, died for our sins.

I don’t believe in the idea that any one religion (mine included) fully reflects Reality. It’s best to keep an open-minded approach to all religions.
