Well, whatever you believe you identify with.

If your genetics aren't the same as what race's blood you have in you, then go by what blood you have.
I think you missed what I was saying. My genetics are the same as nearly anyone else's. Genetics can not, and do not, show one's "race."

As for blood, it tells us nothing. I can donate my blood to any so called "race." More so, I can have any "race" donate their blood to me. Blood doesn't indicate "race."

I dont identify with a "race" as "race" is a biological myth. Not to mention, there really is no way to even identify "race" as there really are no distinguishing marks. A so called "race" can be extremely diverse.

So again, and please actually answer it this time. What does it matter?

The difference between these people is race:

Caucasian:

Negroid:

As for hispanic, I'm not sure, I gathered these from a site.

Why is it important? Why is any poll question important? No question on this forum is important, nothing is important. Why pick at this single question?

I was just curious all in all.

So just like the word "kind" it is an arbitrary meaningless word outside the human need to quickly label and categorize people, animals, and things?

Heh, it can be useful. You couldn't go to a vet if you never knew the difference between a cat and a dog.

What if a filmist wanted specifically a Mongoloid to play a role?

But hey, the labels exist, if you didn't like the labels you never had to come here.

From the Wiki

While biologists sometimes use the concept of race to make distinctions among fuzzy sets of traits, others in the scientific community suggest that the idea of race is often used in a naive or simplistic way. Among humans, race has no taxonomic significance; all living humans belong to the same hominid subspecies, Homo sapiens sapiens. Social conceptions and groupings of races vary over time, involving folk taxonomies that define essential types of individuals based on perceived traits. Scientists consider biological essentialism obsolete, and generally discourage racial explanations for collective differentiation in both physical and behavioral traits.

omg, leave Sum be.

It´s just a poll. He could as well ask which t-shirts you like or how tall are you and not as much people would bug him about it.

How tall are you? Who cares! Would you be so bugging about the poll? I am sure you wouldn´t

granted, I am short :(

Yeah they had an opinion on it, and?

I never said there was science behind the labels of different races.

You asked why everyone was up in arms about race labels. I gave you an answer. I will repeat.

...the scientific community suggest that the idea of race is often used in a naive or simplistic way. Among humans, race has no taxonomic significance...

Scientists get up in arms about it, yes, but that is not really a reason why you should.

I never said you shouldn't, I asked nicely in the first post if you were offended if you could kindly ignore this thread.

I'm not offended, why do you think I was? I participated in the poll and my only comment was to answer a question you asked. Save your vitrol for those who are attacking you. :p

Is that a "yes"?

It's kind of odd. Most the answers are Caucasian, the rest are other. No other "race" has been chosen.

No, the different between those people is a skin pigmentation. It has nothing to do with race.

Why do I pick at this single question? Because the labels are racist. Because the question simply is based on a misunderstanding of humanity, one that has caused immense pain and trouble throughout history.

Race is a myth. Race should have no bearing in our modern world. There is only one race, and that is the human race. As in, there is no grounds for thinking that there are races.

Do you know why the Jews were persecuted? A lot of it had to do with the idea of race, and them being of a lower race. Have you ever heard of the eugenics movement? Why were blacks enslaved? Because it was deemed that they were of a lower race.

The labels that Sum used were racists, and offensive. It isn't like asking how tall I am, because I can actually say how tall I am. I can't say what race I am, because there is nothing supporting the idea of race.

People should not be defined by their so called race. It should not be something of importance.

This is not a place of debate, but of "discussion", and you seem to be behemently debating.

You may do your thread in general debates if you wish to takl about the subject.

It´s just a question, and attacks to it are out of place.

I think that has a lot to do with the term's "mongoloid" and "negroid" to be quite offensive. Mongoloid, for example, has often been used to insult those with down syndrome, or to insult Asians in general.

There really is no reason for such a discussion. And really, that is what has been going on here. The question here is ignorant, and has caused much harm in the past. There is no reason that anyone should just allow such idea to persist.

He posted his question in a public forum. I asked the reason behind it, as well as why the question is not even easy to answer anyway.

Also, questions should be attacked if they have the ability to spread intolerance, or ignorance. The question asked has the ability to do such, as it uses derogatory labels for human beings, and it tries to separate people into classifications that don't even exist.

While the labels Sum used can be taken as racists and will offend some people they aren't in of themselves racists, nor do I believe it was Sum's intent to be racists or offensive. These are merely archaic terms that were once used to define human beings into three races. Just because they have been recently proven to be incorrect labels doesn't mean they weren't once accepted as scientific fact. It may be appropriate to alert Sum to the fact that he is using old terminology that is no longer acceptable, there is no need to be mean about it.
