Would you have resigned? Given that in the hypothetical posed in this thread, you are the Israeli PM.

I can only hope that I would have had that courage. But of course that must be done with a smooth transition and not precipitously.

So now I’m see Netanyahu says hamas isn’t allowing Palestinians to move to where it’s safe and where Israel will supply them with aid.

Why would they join a terror group?

Probably like being in prison. If you are not particularly good at defending yourself, you join any group that will have you. If you're black, the Hispanic group won't have you. The White Supremacists will beat you up. So you join the black group.

I dont know. Maybe consult with my military strategists and see what the best thing to do that would lead to least amount of loss of life. Which hopefully the PM did.

They’ll rise up when the time comes. All people do eventually

If you were Israel’s Prime Minister how would you have handled things differently in response to the Hamas attack on October 7th?
I would offer Palestinian citizens, $1000000 for every verifiable Hamas fighter responsible for the atrocities they committed, handed in to the IDF or Israeli Police or any international law enforcement authority. An offer that would last indefinitely.
Then I would put on the table the offer of having my parliament recognize Gaza and the West Bank, as the Palestinian nation state. Helping and cooperating in installing a democratic government, free of the input of Hamas and any other terrorists that would replace them.
Then I would pledge millions of dollars in aid to improve living conditions in Gaza.
Then I would address the issue of illegal settlement and illegal evictions in the West Bank and guarantee no further land grabs occur and a formal legal process of returning land to the dispossessed.

Pipedreams...

If I wanted to stop Hamas, I need to address the reasons why Hamas have so much power in Gaza. If you act with mercy and reconciliation, then you will show a willingness to negotiate, it will be harder for Hamas to call me a monster.

The objective is stop Hamas and any replacement. The only long term solution, is compromise and cooperation. Neighbours, have no choice. Israel, who I am the prime minister of hypothetically, has the most bargaining power, therefore the onus will be on me, to push forward first, the hand of friendship.

That way I can protect both Israeli citizens and Palestinian citizens from terror groups and their fundamentalist hateful ideologies, and end this conflict equitably and within the boundaries of international law and the Geneva convention.

Wait, strengthen defenses, let the hamas attack stay in the news cycle. Let opinion deepen against them. Wait to see what other countries in the region start to express sympathy, and which don't. Then you have a better idea of who your allies are

I would have sent in the IDF to weed out Hamas, a much better alternative to randomly killing thousands of innocent civilians i tbink

The route Israel has taken makes them no better than Hamas
I think problem is that by attacking as they are, they are probably doing what hamas wants. They want to viciously use their population as a shield, so that your opinion changes. The route Israel has taken, is probably the one that hamas wanted them to take
