What's On Your Mind?

Exactly as it says... what's up? What's on your mind?

Thinking about building a new house? A sandwich?

Worried about politics? Your aunt's health?

Looking at your sock and wondering what in the world you stepped in this time?

What else?

I'm thinking about my ongoing web projects. They're essential for my CV.

I'm also thinking about the possibility of meeting four friends next month for the first time in a good while. One is doing her medical residency and barely has time for herself. Another is dealing with an overly controlling family, who basically don't want her to have a social life. A third one is finishing her finals (after failing a subject) and getting ready to graduate from university. The fourth one is doing her PhD in another country and might visit soon.

I'm hoping I can meet all of them! We've been looking forward to it for a while.

I hope you get to meet up with them all soon, too! I know how much that means to you!
Nah. More like a whimpering in a fetal position.
Well, either way, you'll be retired. :D

Well then I'll' start a thread on it (so as not to derail this thread). But before I do, may I ask what particular theorie(s) you are partial toward? Any that you are tempted to outright reject?

You can start the thread if it interests you. I'd probably even tune in.

But, I probably won't get into a deep philosophical discussion today. I'm not up for it right now.

This has nothing to do with you. It has more to do with me being a bit busy / mentally occupied right now.

Also, I probably shouldn't have mentioned metaphysics, because that implies I might be broadly studying the subject, when I'm really only studying certain things involving it, currently.

Trying to figure out ways to idiot proof my life.

I have nerve damage in both my ears so I have to wear ear protectors when I go out in public. Last night I was at the self check at a grocery store and something went wrong so I called over the clerk. She started by mumbling, mumbling, more mumbling, so I figured maybe it would be safe to take my ear protectors off and see what the hell she was trying to tell me.

Of course as soon as I did she suddenly figured out what was wrong and screamed about it like a contestant on a game show who just won the grand prize, about 3 inched away from my right ear.

So it's been ringing like hell all day. So I'm going to go back to what I used to do which is to wear earplugs and the ear protectors and leave them on no matter what.

It was kind of nice, made the world a very peaceful place. And if I can't understand what someone's saying to me? Oh well, chances are I'm not missing much.

Probably not...

Well, what do you think? Is it, or not?
It's interesting because you have a situation where the country is officially atheist, and you can't be a member of the Communist Party and have a religion. This is a bigger deal than it sounds like, because being a member of the Communist Party in China confers all sorts of benefits--there are even certain restaurants where you can't eat there if you're not a Party member. Nevertheless, there are all these *practices* that have their roots in Chinese folk culture (like honoring ancestors at graveside ceremonies, and lighting incense) that seem to fly under the radar of the Communist Party precisely because they aren't attached to an organized religion. I would say that these practices DO count as religion.

To me, it reminds me a bit of Hinduism (in an abstract sense), where some (not all) say that it's a religion, but one can be cultural in it but still atheist (should they not believe in gods).
