The House of Lords costs the UK a fortune so we might as well make use of them.

UK not 'legally obliged' to pay EU exit bill, peers say
The exit bill is legally required to be paid, it covers items that we are already benefiting from. In my local city there are EU signs on many construction sites, the tram extension has been part funded by the EU, road improvements are EU funded, Social Housing projects are part funded. University research funding is often paid for by the EU.
An area close to my heart, preserved railways, get much funding from Europe.
If we don't pay it, we have to find the same amount from elsewhere.

Wouldn't walking away from our share of the bill be disastrous for the UK?

It would, but apparently disaster to the uk is the last thing on many brexiters minds because they think a bit of hype and a few memes will fix the damage

It is time that the UK started to cut its coat according to its cloth.

It is time that we stopped dishing out funds and foreign aid willy-nilly in the hopes that it will make us look good to the rest of the world.

We all know what given stuff smells like.

If the EU wants the money, they should give us a good deal.

BTW, have they even given us an itemised bill?

Once again it sounds like you are getting a wee bit worried

That sounds a lot like fake news.

According to your link, they are only talking about relocating some of their operations abroad.

“Nearly one in three British businesses are planning to relocate some of their operations abroad or have already shifted them to cope with a hard Brexit”.

That seems like a sensible move and their business in this country will probably soar.

Lightly seared on the reality grill.

Make up your mind. Is it fake news (not true) - why would you think that? Or is it true but not really bad because (for some reason) you think their UK business will "soar" - why would you think that?

The article says: "The Institute of Directors (IoD) warned that 29% of firms in a survey of 1,200 members believed Brexit posed a significant risk to their operations in the UK..." [my emphasis].

They would not do it if they thought it would not benefit their company. Companies make business decisions all the time.

What about the two in three British businesses that are not planning to relocate some of their operations abroad or have already shifted them to cope with a hard Brexit?

Businesses are generally very good at coping with change.

They are shifting operations and staff abroad because they see brexit as a treat not an opportunity.
Some are reducing or closing enterprises in the UK, because they see the future as being elsewhere.

If they see the future as being elsewhere, that is their decision. They cannot hold to country to ransom based on what they might see.

Do we have reliable statistics about those that are reducing or closing enterprises in the UK?

It will be interesting to see how many actually carry out their threats when we have left the EU.

The statistics that matter will be changes to the....
Unemployment figures
Job Vacancies
and the economy.

Businesses do not even try to hold the country to ransom, they do what ever is necessary to survive.

I think a lot of these jobs will be highly paid 'city' jobs that bring in large amounts of income to UK.
Also any jobs that rely on 'just-in-time' parts from the EU

OK Brexiteers, you constantly say you believe in Democracy (as if Remainer's don't) well the evidence for a fraudulant Referendum continues to build up...

Leave. EU and Arron Banks insurance firm fined £120,000 for data breaches

..as believers in democracy, don't you think it should be rerun?

It is an establishment witch-hunt. When are they going to investigate the £9 million government propaganda sent to our letterboxes at the taxpayer’s expense?

BTW, neither influenced my vote.
