What's your favorite vegetarian receipes?

Quorn mince is pretty inoffensive, it doesn't have the strong ''weird'' flavour of tvp, I didn't really bother with substitutes really , but then I love me veggies ;)

Polynesian "Long Pig"

"Pork" about (1 1/2 lbs.)
Pineapple (1 tin in juice)
Ginger (fresh 3/4 inch)
Bayleaf
Pepper Corns (crushed lots)
Onions (2)
Garlic (3-4 cloves)
Coconut Milk
Lemon Grass (2 stems)
Saffron
Olive Oil

Marinate the - ahem - "Pork" (cubed) in the pineapple juice, ginger and 1
crushed clove of garlic and bay for about 2 hours.
Heat oil in pan, add chopped onion and rest of garlic, fry till soft.
Add meat and brown.
Add coconut milk, pineapple and marinade with lemon grass chopped. Reduce
down over about 1 hour, add saffron 15 mins before end of cooking. If you
want it hotter add a chilli or two at the beginning. It should be served
with lots of rice.
I suspected it all along....

I'm sure MSizer knows about seitan. I had to mention it because I prefer it over quorn or tvp.

And heil Seitan kinda justifies its use all by itself.

bleuh! I'd rather eat long pig :(
Well, who wouldn't?

You can just go ahead and enjoy your mold with egg whites manufactured by the U.K.'s leading pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca Inc. Just don't come crying to me when you mutate. :ignore:

My brother has been vegan for about 16 years. So I have had some good stuff.
I specifically enjoy Ethiopian food at a local restaurant, not so much the flavors, but the atmosphere. The grape leaves are always nice.

Lol I eat fishes now instead , poor fishes what did they ever do to me :sad:when I was a meat eater the first time, cod was really cheap and salmon expensive and rare , now it's the other way round, how weird.

If you make the full step to vegetarianism you will eventually come across the "bacon buttie" problem (sorry I have no idea how that translates into Americanese). I found you can quite easily give up most things, but sometimes the bacon sandwich seems irresistable. There's no total solution for this, but the best I've found is to replace the bacon with fresh carrot - odd, but true.

It's like how sea bass was really cheap, then it became trendy and expensive and is over fished now.

Oh, and don't make the mistake of thinking fish are benevolent... Koi kill more humans than car accidents or cancer every year. It's true because I used my mind to make up that anecdote.

I was a vegetarian for over 20 years, I never ate bacon before, definately didn't eat it during and don't eat it now. Yuck! Far too salty, most non vegetarian food is actually inedible because of how salty it is, does anyone else find this?

I never cared for pork at all even as a kid, but seafood, specifically shrimp, was the big hurdle for me.

eta: Whoa, cross post! Jinx!

Sure Mi , I mean Nepenthe. I had sea bass for the first time in a trendy overpriced restaurant , it was fantastic. I know the exec. chef so I got it on the cheap too, all the sweeter for it. But it is good, the only other fish I like besides cod, is tuna but only if it is fresh otherwise it tastes like fish , yuckie.

You should try sea bass wrapped in bacon. :D

Even though i'm a meat eater i really like Vegetable Curry like the one served with Birani, this is my own mix so it doesn't have a name.

Fresh Chillies or dry flakes,i like medium Chilli
Fresh Ginger
Mustard seeds
Caraway seeds
Cumin seeds
Turmeric
Cinnamon stick
Garam Masala
Mace
An Onion
3 cloves of Garlic
4 organic Tomatoes chopped

All the above in red should be in your cupboard anyway :p

You can add Spinnach near the end of the cooking time if you want to be like Popeye

For the Veg i like a combination of
Potato,Cauliflower,Green Beans,Turnip,Peas,Butterbeans,Haricot Beans or whatever veg floats your Boat.

I like this Curry because its Wokable, heat the Wok or Pan and add some oil,veg oil or ground Nut is the best IMO but if you like you could use Gee (clarified Butter)

Add the seeds to the oil but don't have the oil too hot,you want it so the seeds start popping but not burning, add the Turmeric and Garam Masala for a further minute then the Onion Chilli and Garlic and cook until Onion is translucent.

Add the Tomatoes and Cinnamon stick and when they have broken down add the veg except the Potatoes and simmer until tender, cook the Potatoes seperatly and add at the end.

I'm not a lover of Rice so i eat it with just Naan Bread and Beer:D
