That is entirely up to you...God does not operate in earth time. 2,000 years or 20,000, makes no difference to a timeless Being. I believe there is a "real identifiable threat" that was penned by Jesus' apostles to occur in our day.....you can choose not to believe it.

Your decisions are your to make. :)
If a Jehovah Witness puts it this way, most won't object I think. I would not object. I only object when they belittle my/other's faith or feelings.
Hint: The trick is to just be enthusiastic about what you believe, without telling the other, that there is something wrong with his belief.

Of course if you believe that there is something wrong with the other's belief, he might feel it sooner or later, and/or you can't hide it.
And then you have started the fireworks (self created karma), and you can't blame the other for defending his faith while being attacked by you.

It all comes down to respect, which especially includes "not belittling the (non) faith of the other".
The one, giving the first emotional blow, can only blame herself when the other hits back

BUT it is very considerate of you to share that you "believe there is a `real identifiable threat` that was penned by Jesus' apostles to occur in our day"
AND there are quite a few other good points I see in Jehovah Witnesses: focused/driven to do good + sharing positive things + no eternal Hell ...

I was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint by a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses a few years back during a home invasion that started the moment they asked me about Jesus.

If the fire they lit in the living room hadn't spread so quickly, they would've raped my girlfriend in front of me and killed us both at the conclusion of their spree.

Since then, I've been skeptical of the whole outfit.

I’d like to put forth my own wager. Bloodless medicines arose to service the need of JWs refusing blood in the first place. Commerce 101. You guys had a need, some bright spark filled it.
Never thought of it that way. Maybe they discovered that "real service" means giving what the patient wants (needs as per his faith). Or maybe they invented "bloodless medicines" to avoid complications (both ways ... patient health + lawsuits)

We as a society have a deep intrinsic respect for personal faith. Even I, with my snarky sarcasm, would gladly fight to protect this fundamental human right. Regardless of whether I agreed with it or not.
This is true in medicine. Doctors may often be arrogant (some would argue they need to be in order to do their job) but they need your explicit permission to even get a hair sample, never mind a blood transfusion. If you refuse, they will find a way around it, in order to respect your rights.
I agree with this. If a JW does not want blood transfusion then I respect this. And it's much better to create "bloodless medicine" than giving them a guilt feeling that they are "killing their children" when refusing blood transfusion; emotional blackmail is not the way to go IMO. It's all about respect

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
But why would I offer my opinion to someone I don't know about a matter that is personal to them? I would not do so about their dress, their makeup, their choice of home décor, or anything else unless I was specifically and pointedly asked. So why would I offer my opinion on somebody else's beliefs? Is that somehow different?
...Um... I hate to be the one to tell you, but you're offering your opinion to people you don't know about potentially personal matters right now.

1): Do you really "hate" to tell this?

2): Something does not feel right in your reply:
He asks a question:
"why would I offer my opinion to someone on their beliefs .... I would not do so on their dress etc ... is that somehow different?"
Your reply is:
"but you're offering your opinion to people you don't know about potentially personal matters right now."
Similar question:
"why would I offer to kill someone on their beliefs .... I would not do so on their dress etc... is that somehow different"
Your reply would be?:
"but you're offering to kill people you don't know about potentially personal matters right now."

Got a citation for that claim? A recent study perhaps? Because you can literally say that about almost all medicine: people can die, for any number of reasons after receiving medical treatment. But just because you could die from a surgery is not a reason to avoid a surgery to remove an infected appendix. Everything has a risk. Even walking down the street.

Please watch the video put out by the Australian Government Blood Authority.

It is amusing to me that they call this video "Blood, still saving lives but...there are risks" and then proceed to tell us how dangerous blood transfusions are.....

For Media | National Blood Authority

Since it is clear from these clinicians that there is more "morbidity" and "mortality" associated with blood transfusions than in practically any other medical procedure, one has to wonder why more people aren't taking advantage of the low risk alternatives. It's as if they don't even know about them. I wonder who didn't tell them?

I’d like to put forth my own wager. Bloodless medicines arose to service the need of JWs refusing blood in the first place. Commerce 101. You guys had a need, some bright spark filled it.

You are almost correct.....but failed at the commercial aspect. You see, not having blood speeds up recovery, which results in less time in hospital, and there are way less complications, so money is saved...this is why hospitals are now practicing bloodless medicine....it is now considered best practice by many experts in this field. The success rate of patient recovery among JW patients, when compared to the same procedures using blood in other patients, was seen to have a much better outcome. It was just common sense.

If you want a commercial incentive, look no further than the multi-million dollar blood banking industry. That cash cow will not get shut down in a hurry, especially when old, died in the wool medicos refuse to learn the benefits of new procedures.

We as a society have a deep intrinsic respect for personal faith. Even I, with my snarky sarcasm, would gladly fight to protect this fundamental human right. Regardless of whether I agreed with it or not.

Exactly. If it wasn't for those wonderful doctors who care about our sincerely held beliefs, then perhaps none of the alternative procedures would have been developed and many JW's would have lost their lives. God's law on blood is not negotiable for us. So having plasma volume expanders, cell salvage, hemodilution, the administration of EPO, realizing that a low hematocrit level is not necessarily a death sentence....all these things have helped not only Witness patients, but many thousands of others who benefited from non-blood patient management.

Crikey!!!...what on earth had you been taking????? LSD?

JW's do not carry weapons.....they do not carry out home invasions.....how could you tell that they were JW's? Did the suit and tie give them away? Don't tell me...they used a Watchtower magazine to set your house on fire.

I think you might need to see a doctor and get help with your delusions.... Oh dear.....:(

LSD had/has nothing to do with it.

They didn't make use of any magazines. But yeah, these particular JWs did carry weapons and did carry out a home invasion. You shouldn't make sweeping generalizations like that; it's harmful to society.

Personally, I think these two were just opportunists who took advantage of my partner at the time answering the door.

I think you might need to see a doctor and get help with your delusions.... Oh dear.....:(

I'm certain that I'm not suffering from any delusions. And I don't need to see a doctor at the moment. It's kinda condescending of you to suggest that I do.

How horrible what happened to you and your girlfriend

I once saw a movie in which gangsters dressed up as a Jehovah Witnesses, just to get into the house
Can't it be that the ones at your house were NOT real Jehovah Witnesses, but pretending to be, just to fool you to open the door?
It just does not make sense to me, that a Jehovah Witness would do such a thing

Anyway, it's better to be careful opening the door where you live.

In my village I don't even lock the door when I leave for a few days

No, they were definitely believing, practicing JWs. Just opportunists like I said.

We didn't call the police because they said they'd be back to retaliate if we did; if not them, other JWs.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.....they carried out a home invasion...set fire to your house and would have raped your girlfriend and killed you both.....yet you didn't call the police???? Are you serious?

They were NOT JW's...I can assure you of that.....what @stdvd suggests sounds more plausible. Anyone who knows Jehovah's Witnesses will tell you that we are the most peaceful, law abiding people in any nation. We do not carry weapons and we do not believe in violence for any reason. You fell for a ruse.

Looking up what “soliciting” means....

Soliciting:
the action or fact of accosting someone and offering one's or someone else's services as a prostitute.”

“solicitation - Legal Definition
n. A request or petition intended to obtain something; criminally urging, advising, or ordering someone to commit a crime; offering to pay for sex or requesting money in exchange for sex; an attempt to increase the number of one's actual or potential clientele.”

“Example of Solicitation Statute
The following example solicitation statute defines the act: ... A person engages in solicitation if he intentionally orders, advises, or encourages another person to commit a crime. It is not necessary for the actual crime to have occurred for a person to be guilty of solicitation. Mar 5, 2016”

“Is door knocking soliciting?
In some cities, posting a "No Soliciting" sign on your front door or near the entrance to your neighborhood prohibits solicitors from knocking on your door. ... However, if your city does not prohibit solicitors from knocking on your door when such a sign is posted, all you can really do is politely ask them to leave.”

So you see that the work that JW’s do in spreading the gospel as Jesus commanded, is not “soliciting” by it’s legal definition......if we refuse to leave your premises when asked to, (which we will always do,) it can then become trespass.....that is illegal. But in most places it is not illegal to knock on your door.

It is not our intention to harass or to annoy people but only to give them what we believe is life saving information. The easiest way to stop us coming to your door is to request that we do not call again. You will be placed on a list of homes not to call on, and we will leave you in peace, knowing that we have done as Jesus requested. Our elders may call once a year or so to make sure that the house has not been sold and have new residents who may welcome our visits. The call will be very brief.

You misunderstood their reason for leaving quickly.....we have nothing to fear from the police because we are not breaking the law. It would have been more about not wanting to upset you any further.

Please just tell them not to call again if that is what you want. Believe me, we have no desire to confront hostile people.

We have no desire to disturb a family meal.....some people eat at strange times so there is no way to gauge what is “mealtime” for many. If you have a sign that says “No Jehovah’s Witnesses” we can read. :D

I specifically used the word unsolicited
Unsolicited : not asked for; given or done voluntarily.

Neighborhood watch, look it up.

Of course you are free to call anywhere you want where you do so legally, just as a householder is free to legally say push off, or to report your unsolicited trespass.

Yes life saving information... The last time, several years ago, that i was harassed by JW, they offered me a magazine, and told me it contained life saving information. It looked precisely like an official NHS (national health service) magazine, same layout, same colour scheme. The items on the front cover implied NHS studies on heart health, smoking, pregnancy and alcohol. I accepted the magazine expecting some professional health advice articles. After they left i opened to see. The front cover printed, the rest of the flysheet blank,. Inside was a copy of the watchtower.

I decided there and then that if your faith has to resort to subterfuge, even fraud to palm of the watchtower then they do not deserve civility when they disturb my family life.

I told them not to call again every single time they called. I even had a notice pinned to the notice board in the local kingdom hall. Did it stop them??? What do you think?

Ehhh?, who are Jehovah's witnesses to dictate at what time a family eats meals?

If you can read then a sign saying "unsolicited callers will be reported to the police" should be fairly obvious that it applies to all uninvited callers, not all but Jehovah's witnesses.

Most of the police in that town were JWs too. If we called them, the police could very well be the JWs who might've came round and finished us off.

We left town a couple of days after the home invasion. It was like something out of a horror movie.

And you shouldn't generalize about entire groups of people; it can be very harmful to society.

There's a few bad apples in every bunch; I guess we just got the raw end of the stick with these particular JWs.

One thing's for sure: they were sincere in their faith.

Why? God's too busy?

Always fascinates me, this idea that God really, really wants all humanity to know the "truth" about him, but in all his omnipotence, could only manage to tell a few people, and hope they'd be able to "pass it along." And without making any mistakes, or changing a word here or there, as everybody here on earth knows happens when messages get forwarded.

Especially since God does not speak.

...... and we do not deliver it when requested to do so, who do we blame if he lowers the boom on us? ...... he will not force anyone to worship him either with threats or with displays of his power.

It needs editing. I am sure.

Well now I know that you are under a complete delusion......because 1) JW's aren't in the police force because it requires a person to carry and use a weapon.....we won't do that. We won't join the military or fight in a war either.

2) What house were you in that you could just leave if someone started a fire in your living room...?

Are you sure you didn't dream it? Had a bad trip? Are you sure it wasn't a horror movie?

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard....sorry but your story just doesn't hold water.

JWs don't have to be strict JWs.

And if JWs can't be police officers, then why did I keep getting hammered with misdemeanors and told by the police that if I converted to JW like them they would leave me alone like every other "good" JW in that town?

Like I said - you shouldn't paint with such a broad brush. Many JWs are very much into deadly weapons and violence like the ones I encountered.
