I don't know much about my ancestry, but I do know this very interesting fact... I am descended from a Norwegian king, out of wedlock.

100% Norwegian as far as we know. My family has traced our ancestors back to Norway, but I can't remember how many generations ago that was. I think maybe it was my great-grandparents that came over. At Christmas we traditionally have lutefisk and lefse. Of course we have more than that - the lutefisk is more of a token dish than anything - not many people actually like it! But it reminds us of our heritage. Mom always makes the lefse - she's tried teaching us girls how to make it but she's the pro! She also makes sandbakkels and krumkakke at Christmas time.

I can beyond a shadow of a doubt say that my family does not follow any Norwegian tradition. Norwegian probably doesn't account for anything more than a minute percentage of my ancestry, anyway.

600 years ago my family recieved a land grant from the local king in modern tamil nadu - family remained feudal farmers through generations - validated through land titles
400 years ago we assisted the crown prince of a part of kerala in south india to fight a coup, won the kingdom and were appointed chiefs of the army

this part of Kerala wasnever ruled by the british.in 1947 upon indias independance, this country decided to join the indianunion and we disbanded our irregulars and the regular forces joined the Indian army (i guess this ariticle speaks about it too)
the first communist government in kerala after independance, seized our lands and distributed that among the landless. so we went into alternate careers but that was mostly military service.
reminds me that we lost 2 of my maternal grand uncles to the second world war. one went to study law in london and we never heard of him after a year in 1944 or so and the other fought with the british and died in belgium.
until my generation(1960s) we have served in the army. in mine 4 out of 9 went on to work in other fields. one of my cousins does AI in sunmicro, one does manufacturing in toyota both in the us another is in bangalore in amex, and me a banker in hong kong. my brother recently retired from being a submariner - works in a courier co now.
my wifes family is from the same caste - meaning similar background, but less violent. they were feudal farmers with no military ties. but moved to the cities for education about 200 years ago. were government employees moslty. her great great great grand father was a doctor. her great grand fathers were government employees and her grand parents too.
so thats it - pure blood so to speak - well then mostly - i dont think that means much though - i would liked to have carried much less weight and baggage.
but some of these people had funny names. for instance the member of the family that was given land 600 years ago was called cheravan - meaning in local language today - the scrapper. and the guys who were rewarded in the war with the dutch were kunhikuttan and marvanan- kunhi kuttan mean little baby, i dont know what the other one means.

I'm about 3/4 haggis, 1/4 pom. My old man came over with his family from Scotland when he was about 9, and lapses back into the accent when he's around his folks (which amuses me no end, since he sounds like he's got a silver spoon shoved up his bum the rest of the time). On mum's side, it's largely Scottish/English, although she's been doing the genealogy bit, and she made mention of a Spanish sea captain back there somewhere. :biglaugh: The mind boggles... Oh, we're also related to Hugh Jackman in a roundabout and probably rather distant way.

I am 1/4 Japanese and 3/4 Philippina. My birth mothers father was Japanese. I've been saying that I am half and half because it's easier to say then 1/4 and 3/4 :biglaugh: . I feel like flour being measured to make bread. I get people asking me if I am hawaiian or hispanic. I just tell them that I am a flip jap :areyoucra .

I am an Irish Canadian. My Mother's side of the family is from Canada, but originally from, ummm, Canada. And my Father's side is right from Ireland. Pretty boring!

I'm of primarily English and German stock, with a little bit of Scottish and Welsh mixed in, along with who knows what else. And apparently the "who-knows-what-else" contributed to my looks, because I often get comments that I look "foreign" ( Portuguese, Italian, Asian....I've heard it all! ).

Seriously, though, my principle stock is English. Next in line would be German. Next probably others from the British Isles such as Scottish. I know my family has traced out some Norwegian and a few other Western European races. I have a little bit of Native American in me, principally Choctaw.
