It would be a HUGE step, imo, if we dropped the color schemes and saw each other as being "humans".

I bet *you* don't speak 'the King's English', but rather an Americanized deviant from it.

The rest looks like you just want people to submit to the dominant culture and *still* not be able to actually advance in it.

The problem is that even those that do work hard and get a diploma are denied jobs they are qualified for at higher rates than an equivalent white person. Non-whites don't get the business loans; even the rich have to deal with a police force that considers them to be criminals if they are black in a white neighborhood, or brown and doing anything other than yard work.

The problem isn't the language or the wagging of the head or a diploma. it is a culture that *automatically* sees any difference from the white over-culture as being negative and worthy of expulsion.

Mostly I think we have, however segregation has lasting effects. People still live in white areas and black areas. It is a powerful specter from the past. Real estate.

in my little town....the whites don't wander to the east side

people have been known to get shot in the face

What do you think about tax and mortgage incentives to people who move into the opposite territory? That might speed up the healing process I think. We're still looking at many decades of problems I think, but what do you think of that idea?

My thoughts are that it isn't true.

Fastest growing group in society is Hispanic (I think). Most Hispanics consider themselves to be white though.

The attempt to define people into monochromatic 'white' v 'people of colour' binary is both racist and very stupid anyway as you get into this kind of situation of deciding who is 'pure' enough to be counted as a white.

There will be a lot more mixed race people in the future, what % of 'non-white blood' makes one a 'person of colour'?

Also you create a situation where people who are genetically the same can be 'white' or 'people of colour' depending on how they choose to identify or based on one's prejudice.

Time for new ways of classifying people methinks.

Fewer and fewer people of pure European descent. Hopefully, racial identity becomes a thing of the past.
