Kathryn
It was on fire when I laid down on it.
OK, folks, think COMMON MAN here - no balsamic vinaigrettes, basmati rice, crepes, or steamed ANYTHING!
Share your favorite white trash (or whatever ethnic group you prefer) recipes - you know, the ones your grandmother used to whip up with no written instructions, or the one you ate for two years while you were in college and could only spend $25 a week on food.
Here's my first one:
Fried Fruit Pies
Take a can of bisquits and roll the bisquits out one at a time on your counter top using, of course, a plastic cup because you don't have a rolling pin. Make each one a thin circle of dough.
Put a couple of spoonfuls of any sort of fruit preserves in the middle of each circle. The store brand kind that comes in the little glass jar that you can later use for a drinking glass works just fine.
Heat about 1/2 an inch of oil in a skillet on medium high. NO OLIVE OIL - that would SUCK. Just plain old corn oil works best.
While that's heating up, fold each dough circle in half over the preserves. Pinch the edges together. If you want to get REALLY fancy, you can press them together with the tines of a fork - that makes a really cool edge on each little pie.
Fry each pie till brown and crispy on each side. Drain on a paper towel.
Sprinkle each one with sugar while they are still hot.
Bon appetit!
