No. According to other verses, Prophet went towards the Gabriel, not Gabriel towards him. There are few points in those verses which all are directing towards a single conclusion :
01. The verse says HE ( or he) descended from the highest point of horizon nearer to Prophet Muhammad not Prophet ascended from the highest point of horizon toward HE ( or he) . Hence it happened on the face of the earth and not in the heaven.
Allah says,
It[ Quran or whatever Prophet says ] is indeed the speech of a noble Messenger[ i.e., Gabriel ], (19) powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne, (20) one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well. (21) Your companion[ Prophet Muhammad ] is not crazy: (22) certainly he[ Prophet ] saw him[ Gabriel ] on the manifest horizon, (23) and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen. (24)And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan. (25)
Prophet saw Gabriel on the manifest horizon. So, it was Prophet who went towards the highest horizon.
Hence it happened in the heaven and not on the face of the earth.
Verses does not imply that their context is the revelation of Qur'an. In addition, as I proved, Prophet went to the heavens, not the reverse.02.The context of the of verse is the revelation of Qur'an and Qur'an was brought down to Prophet Muhammad to this earth . Ref. 26:193 ,29:46, 97:04 etc.
It is not only Jannah in the verse. It is Jannah Al-Ma'wa and Allah says that only the Eden is the Jannah Al-Ma'wa. Allah says,03. Jannah doesn't necessarily means always Paradise or heaven . It also means a simple garden that human can possess . Ref. 6:99,6:141,13:4,34:15 etc.
04. The noun 'Mawa' attached to Jannah in verse 53:15 simply means abode , shelter , home-stead etc. Note that Almighty GOD used the same word to confirm that HE gave shelter/home to Prophet Muhammad and did a favor for him . Ref.93:6.
1.As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them will be[ in Hearafter ] the Gardens of Refuge( Jannat Al-Ma'wa ) as accommodation for what they used to do[ in Donya, this word ]. (19)
2.But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination, (40) Then indeed, Paradise( Jannah ) will be [his] refuge( Al-Ma'wa ). (41)
Your reference does not make any sense. It is about a torment. But that of Prophet was a great blessing and was in the Jannah Al-Ma'wa[ Eden, Garden of Refuge ].05. Lote trees are also grown in peoples' garden . Ref.34:16
Rejected!Keeping the attention in Qur'an only , all what mentioned above conclude that the incident was an earthly one .
