No. There isn't much hope for a revolution to be victorious, it will cause great amounts of suffering, and there is much we can do politically. I would oppose a revolution without hesitation.

No violence -- I advocate a velvet revolution.
I prefer cotton, but maybe that's just me.

"For love, freedom, reasonably priced love, and a hard boiled egg!"

As for the revolution thing, I'll have to steal from my own signature on another forum, also a quote from Terry Pratchett. From the book, "Small Gods," a young man named Brutha is learning that his country has been overrun by those who lie. Someone else is suggesting that they die for the cause of revealing the truth, after it has been revealed to them. The person says "Now we've got a truth to die for!" Brutha replies
"No. Men should die for lies. But the truth is too precious to die for."

I don't agree that anyone should die for lies, but I agree with the last part. If there is not peace in our heart, there can never be peace throughout the world.

I haven't voted, but I was fascinated by the thread. Is this purely on the basis that you believe your political system to be corrupt, or is there another need about which I know nothing?:)

Although I am not in favor of a violent revolution, there are many serious things wrong with our present government: Fighting unnecessary and unjust wars, wasting money on a redundant space program, not providing a national health care program...and now, pushing a religious agenda.

I hope that these problems can be solved without overthrowing the government.

It's not so much corrupt as being overtaken by those that would take away freedoms, have people go to war while at the same time cutting their military benefits and their physical protection (have those overseas gotten that metal plating yet?), destroying land and natural resources, cutting programs for the poor and forcing its agenda on others, and all the while trying to assure the citizens that they know what's best. Maybe it's just a hope of mine, but I'm thinking that once the nation comes to its senses, there will be no more tolerance of this.

You asked if there was 'another need', and I really can't think of one except that I (and many others, it seems) am scared of how our country is heading, and scared that any reputation the nation might have built as a being reasonable place is being destroyed. It makes me nervous to think that I might be on a watchlist and 'taken away' for some action that was interpreted as subversive. I don't want to be disappeared. :(

Whatever our problems, corruptions, etc., I think we have a good system in place, it's just some of the people I'd like to get rid of.

Le plongeur avec attitude...
The present administration has collected 13 shekels of oil and has taken the phrase "What thou do, do quickly" to unimaginable lows. We have been sold out on everything from the environment to Haliburton and there is no end in sight. I take that back... we have four more years of evil to endure.

Call it sedition, call it whatever you want. If the men in black suits bang down my door for this stuff then they really need something else to do. No, I don't think we need a revolution. I think we need to get the brainless automatrons out of the office and get Hillary Clinton in 2008. Dubwa hasn't got a flippin' clue to run this country, never has and I'm afraid never will. This current administration has done more to drive this country into a rotting stinking hole in the ground in the shortest amount of time imaginable!

Ah well, in that case, you are voicing the thoughts of most who live in so called 'Democratic' countries. Politicians are voted into office by promisses made which will attract the majority vote. Once elected, the polititians do what they want, regardless of the 'voter's opinions' - "oh, but we are doing this in your best interests." is the usual excuse.

I have three main 'rules' that I apply to these topics; they sound cynical, and I appologise for that ( I would also say that rule 1 does not apply to 'thinkers' - ie to Forum members; being a member of a forum such as this one qualifies the member as being someone who cares, and who would gladly contribute I deas to erase Religious and Racial discrimination)

1. The only thing wrong with the human race is the human element.
2. The main 'driving' force of most humans is an ego-based selfishness.
3. All political systems are fine in theory; in practice, none of them work.

As far as I am concerned, the only form of political system that would work would be a truly objective, selfless and altruistic dictatorship. But here again, bring in the human being, and rules such as 'absolute power corrupts' creep in to the equation. There is no answer save for groups of well-intentioned people acting in an exemplary behaviour, which would make people think about things other than their next car, house, holiday.............

A revolution would be a disaster for America. Civil war, bloodshed, and chaos. Better to work through the system for change, even though that can take a long time.

No revolution why? We still got it better than just about (if not all) the other countries in the world. Best military, best democracy, most free country in the world. Revolution is not need, however a few changes are needed just not on a revolutionary scale. Things like gay marriage and stem cell research.

i dont think there is need for a revolution right now, but i think if the country keeps heading the way it is many people are going to say enough is enough. i think if we got some good people in power instead of the people we have now more people would have trust in the country again. i personally think Bush and his administation are going to be one of the big downfalls for America. in 3 years and nine months Bush can do a lot of damage, but a violent revolution would do more damage.

Hehehehe, I totally agree with everyone here that Bush has not been that great of a president. But, I think Arnold might actually be good. Many classify him as a Moderate Conservative, and liberal when it comes to social issues, just the way I feel. He can keep our military strong, and us safe, and hopefully can get things like gay marriage legalized nationwide, and keep abortion legal. He really seems a bit more open and tolerant than Bush is. The only reason I really support Bush, is that he personally seems to be the lesser of two evils. Both Kerry and Bush I really think sucked for voters choice-wise and even the analysis says most of the votes were cast "against the opponent" rather than "for the candidate of your choice". Pretty sad it had to come to that.
