Who will be the new Demons?

yawn <ignore> yawn
I was born in the USA in the late 50's. I've seen demons come and go.
When I was a kid, the Communists were going to brainwash me. I was taught in school how to survive a Communist atomic attack by crouching under my desk on the second floor of my Christian school.
Then it was the blacks!
Then the homosexuals. I was a little more scared of them, because I know what us boys are like.

So now that gays are just boring people like everyone else, according to the highest court of the land, who is next?

The top three choices for demonization I can think of, in order, are:
1) Muslims
2) hard working people who can't get green cards
3)divorcees

I think it should be divorcees. Especially the ones who have children. They cause huge amounts of damage by begetting, but not raising.

Divorce, or pre-emptively not marrying your fellow parent, is the
biggest social problem the USA has. I want legal action taken.
Do you support legislation on this?

Radical Muslims, its already started and for good reason. Last Friday will be known as Bloody Friday, 3 attacks on three different countries on the same day by radical Islamic jihadists, killing over 36 people. No doubt, there is more to come.

The demons are the people who are typically the most marginalized but pose the biggest social threat to tradition. Women who see injustice are seen as entitled brats. Blacks who see injustice as seen as entitled brats. Watch what happens now since marriage equality has been announced as constitutional....LGBTQ people will be seen as entitled brats just like before and folks will say that heterophobia is a real thing and worse than homophobia or biphobia.

So, who is currently seen as people who are supposed to be invisible, but are wanting to be recognized legally as an equal citizen?

I'd wager trans people will be the new target for demonization by the dominant majority.

In the right wing media, the demons are the socialists, which they say are all communist, so I guess we've come full circle back to the 50s. Certainly in terms of rights for the poor we've actually regressed from the 50s.

Hey folks, you all know that we Setians and Satanists are naturally demonized by the profane and popular culture. You know why we don't scream out in an outrages uproar? Because, we don't give a damn, we are not out to convert or conform. I for one am proud to be the outcast and the weirdo. :p :smileycat:

Hell, I pose no threat or harm to anybody except those who might try to stifle my freedom of being.

But that is over there someplace unimportant if you aren't a tourist. I'm talking about reality.
There are a thousand divorcées for every undocumented worker, and a thousand undocumented workers for every Muslim.
If there is any one Teaching of Jesus, that isn't part of every other moral code invented by bronze age people, it would be "DON'T GET MARRIED UNTIL YOU WILL STAY MARRIED".
Why don't Christian USonian people get this?

In the more leftish media, we capitalists aren't faring too well in the image department.
I guess we'll just have to find solace in wealth & privilege.
And the socialists will have to find solace in.....uh.....Obamcare, higher taxes, & Bernie's giving Hillary a run for the money so far.

Don't forget pedophiles; we already tag them like dogs and use fear of their name to pass legislation. And that's a bipartisan affair.

Why do USA Christians consider gay marriage and abortion so much more important than what Jesus actually got quoted on, divorce?
Do I need to post the verses?

Where is the legislation? The protests? Why do Christians care so much about stuff Jesus didn't mention and ignore the stuff He was rather clear about?

Definitely. It's a brand new scarecrow. In my opinion, real pedophiles should rot in prison or, better, be immediately castrated. However, the problem of pedophilia is often demonized by the media, politicians and ****ty psychologists. My colleague at school was once accused by two kids who got bad marks of being a pedophile. It was a lie, of course, and he didn't face any legal or disciplinary problems but he had to spend quite a lot of time explaining himself.

Muslims are another convenient scarecrow the government can use to convince people to agree on limiting their rights as citizens in the name of security.

I don't think the SCOTUS ruling is the end of it. I think extreme religious rightwingnuts will still push for ways to circumvent or challenge this. This is not over, gays will still be demonized.

That is certainly true. Though gays demanding equality will be added to the list of feminists and #blacklivesmatter movements. We're the people who have a modicum of legal standing with the socially advantaged groups, but who don't shut up and know our places enough. As long as we appreciate being given a bone and don't expect any more, we're okay in their eyes. It has already been discussed at great length...feminists are seen as man-haters, black rights organizations are seen as just as bad as the KKK, and now watch as LGBTQ activists will start to be compared to WBC if we start saying that marriage equality doesn't erase the discrimination and harassment we still face.

We'll be seen as hetero-phobic, just as bad as the WBC, and that we want special privileges or special rights. Gays who defer to straights as inherently superior won't be seen as the problem. Like women who think men should be entitled to more power and money more than women, or who think bad behavior ought to be excused by men....they are seen as "God-fearing" women and not for the apologists as I think they are.

I tend to say....it's a good thing I drink. Whether it's for celebration (last yesterday and into last night at Pride [woo-hoo!]), or for coping with the stress of being targeted for being not-as-human by the bigoted rhetoric in front of me. I like whiskey. :p

That being said, though, trans people are targeted within the community as well. Biphobia isn't as glaring, though it does still exist, however that has been addressed by legalizing same sex marriage as constitutional. That doesn't address the problems that trans people endure and still face. And because gays, lesbians, and bisexual cis people aren't quite as targeted as trans people, it will be very easy for trans people to begin to be targeted by those like us, IMO. That's why I think trans people are already being seen as the next demon du jour of society.

I'll bet you a nickel that there'll be no serious challenge to gay marriage outside of intra-church matters.
And by "serious", I'm thinking of how abortion rights are fought with onerous requirements on clinics (legal) & systematic threats upon staff (extra-legal).

I'm betting you are right. I doubt there will be anything more than isolated anti-gay
rhetoric. This will fade away.
Radical Muslims might be a real threat to this country in the near future.

How could Muslims possibly pose as much threat to this country as irresponsible parents?
