I saw it. Had a problem with the 3D and screen so they had to stop the movie in the middle, most of us took a bathroom break.....and we watched the rest.....even got FREE movie vouchers for whatever movie we want to see in the future.
OK....Here's my take on it. The CGI was decent. The special effects and colors were nice.
What I didn't like was the 3D. I didn't see it in any sort of 3D IMAX just regular 3D on a flat screen.
3D WAS NOT NEEDED FOR THIS MOVIE. IMO there was very little that appeared to be 3D. A lot of background, when you removed the glasses, you could tell it was 3D but foreground didn't appear to be in 3D. Because of that and using the glasses it dimmed the vibrant colors of the characters.
I'm sorry to rant on about that but I just really had a bad experience with that and was expecting MORE. I Live here in VA and over the break went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg and they have some sort of haunted castle ride in 3D and that was far better. Even when I went to Disney World, they had a small theater with a 10 to 15 minute 3D show that was way better than Avatar 3D.
OK...OK...Enough of that rant...Now onto the plot. Without giving away spoilers.....
.....The story itself was nothing new.....The classic back yard bully movie. Really it was like.....American Native Indians meet the white man (Circa 1600's).....
I'm with Watchmen on this one......
A - visuals (minus the crappy 3D)
C - Story (Basically a Native American/Colonial Settlers rehashed) on a different planet and technology
B - Overall....
Is it worth paying to see it. YES just not in 3D or for full price. Go to a matinee.
