Since you don't know what it's like where I live,That's a load of bull.
The internet is one's friend. I can look up state and county wide pay averages just as much as anyone. But because I did add to my original post, I'll requote it here:Since you don't know what it's like where I live,
you're guessing, & proffering your guess as fact.
One might call that a load of...you know.
I don't live in Detroit. The internet is one's friend. I can look up state and county wide pay averages just as much as anyone. But because I did add to my original post, I'll requote it here:
"Specifically, Detroit has the highest paid wages for janitorial services in Michigan due to unionization and a labor strike. Not competition. That wage is 15 an hour, which is minimum wage around here and will probably be for most of the nation in the not too distant future. Their average pay outside the city is around $10 best, which is fifty cents over minimum wage."
I didn't say you did. I said Detroit has the highest custodial (and most blue collar) wage of the state, due to unionization and labor strike. The rest of the state is doing abysmally poor by national standards. And is not by any significant value over minimum wage.I don't live in Detroit.
This points out the dangers of being rude based upon a guess.
Then you ignored my post in favor of attacking a straw man.I didn't say you did. I said Detroit has the highest custodial (and most blue collar) wage of the state, due to unionization and labor strike. The rest of the state is doing abysmally poor by national standards. And if that was enough to count as rude to you then you better buy a mirror.
What strawman? Okay, so in what way is competition supporting the blue collar workers of Michigan, since it's obviously not reflecting in their wages? Then you ignored my post in favor of attacking a straw man.
You're doing this a lot lately. You & I once had discussions,
but it's been a long while.
I think the university is the largest factor in a strong & relatively stable economy.Revolingest did mention that he lived in a very Democratic city, as I recall.
Maybe that's why the workers are prospering.
They're prospering where labor laws and union support is growing. Not so much due to laissez-faire capitalism.Revolingest did mention that he lived in a very Democratic city, as I recall.

I spoke of where I live.Okay, so in what way is competition supporting the blue collar workers of Michigan, since it's obviously not reflecting in their wages?
What makes you think this is true here? They're prospering where labor laws and union support is growing. Not so much due to laissez-faire capitalism.
Making my post about Detroit instead of where I live, Ms Eyeroller. What strawman?
Then you ignored my post and are instead attacking a straw man. I used Detroit as an example of where they're doing the best, and that best is our minimum wage. In the same post. "Their average pay outside the city is around $10 best, which is fifty cents over minimum wage." Which is 6% below the national average.Making my post about Detroit instead of where I live, Ms Eyeroller.
I'm not discussing Detroit. Then you ignored my post and are instead attacking a straw man. I used Detroit as an example of where they're doing the best, and that best is our minimum wage. Great, neither am I. Once again, used it as an example of the best around you and why they're doing well. Not saying it's where you live. Where you live is doing worse, which doesn't account for your claim that competition is making them more successful. So I ask again: How is competition making them more successful?I'm not discussing Detroit.
You're just bickering & repeating yourself.Great, neither am I. Once again, used it as an example of the best around you and why they're doing well. Not saying it's where you live. I don't think that's the reason, but okay. Well, let me know if you ever come up with an answer. You're just bickering & repeating yourself.
I've no interest in abetting.
One might think your motives aren't as you say either.I don't think that's the reason..
