Why do atheists haunt religious forums?

Engyo

Prince of Dorkness!
Hey there

So why do people that do not believe in God and detest religion seek out religious forums to pass their time? I've put this in same faiths hoping to attract those with some sort of faith.

Hey, Newhope -

Your post makes a number of assumptions that don't hold true across the board. For example - I don't believe in God, but I do not detest religion. I do have faith, but not Christian faith. Your post seems to postulate that there is only one kind of faith.

There are a number of threads devoted to this topic here on RF. To answer your question, one of the big reasons is that people of religious faith often want to require their fellow citizens to act as if they share that religious faith, whether or not they actually do. This is true of Islamic countries, Buddhist countries, and so on.

Another is that while someone may not share your (or any) faith, they may enjoy discussing faith and religion with folks of various persuasions.

Religion according to the dictionary is "belief in, worship of, or obedience to a supernatural power or powers considered to be divine". Atheists ...sorry to burst your bubble. You do not have a religion.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but many atheists do have a religion, as has already been explained to you in this thread. Many Buddhists are atheists, for instance.

Justify your existence on a religious forum to your hearts content.

"Justify"? No. Explain to someone who doesn't understand and doesn't want to understand anything other than her own little perspective? Yes.

I think it's hilarious...

Well, I guess we're even then, since that's pretty much what I think of your posts in this thread.

The arrogance is astounding."

I don't expect to change anything, but some are so easily baited.

No worries, we feel the same way about you. btw, apparently honesty or accuracy is not a big value to you? I don't feel the need to "justify my existence" to you or anyone else. I'm a valuable member of this community, which I value in turn. Apparently you don't share my view. The door is that way, and don't let it hit you on your way out.

Under US law, it is a religion. So context matters.

I've never met an atheist who worshiped himself/herself. I wouldn't worry about that being a big problem....unless Australia is a lot different from here.

From the Forum Rules:
We recognize three areas of unacceptable trolling (Please note that these apply to PMs, signature lines, frubal comments, and visitor messages as well, if they are reported):
1)posts that are deliberately inflammatory in order to provoke a vehement response from other users.
2)posts that Target a person or group by following them around the forums to attack them. This is Bullying. Deliberately altering the words of another member by intentionally changing the meaning when you use the quote feature is considered a form of bullying. The ONLY acceptable alteration of a quotation from another member is to remove portions that are not relevant or to alter formatting for emphasis.
3)posts that are adjudged to fit the following profile: "While questioning and challenging other beliefs is appropriate in the debates forums, repeated blatant misrepresentation or continual harassment of other beliefs will not be tolerated."

Please do not bait members. I realize I'm not an active staff member anymore, but I'm trying to help.

RF recognizes atheists as members. In this forum, that's all that matters here. If you think it's hilarious, laugh to your hearts content. If you don't like it, tough.
