Why do humans allow suffering?

I don't know. What would you have done?

If you want, you can take the Bible as a fairy tail or fantasy, but at least make sure to get the whole story right. God had warned Adam and Eve as to what would happen if they stopped listening to him and started listening to the devil. They chose the latter and, sure enough, everything God said would happen did happen. Would someone be a bad parent if their child put their hand in the flame after having been warned of the consequences by that parent?

People seem to forget that the devil has a role in this life. He's the one who causes the problems, not God. God tells us, via the Bible, how to live a good life, but if someone doesn't want to listen He won't force them. Free will allows us to make up our own minds.

Take care...

There is a good reason as to why you don't know.
It is because it didn't have to be that way.

Humans allow suffering because we are flawed, just as the world that was created is flawed. We dance to the mindless tune set by the Demiurge.

The world was created perfect, it was absolute perfect paradise in the begging. But as soon as Adam and Eve sinned, everything changed. The whole world became hostile, the animals became vicious and many plants became poisons and thorns and thistles appeared.

The bible tells us that God will destroy this world and create a brand new one, where everything will be perfect again. But sin must be eradicated form the face of the world before that happens. Christ is coming back to judge the whole world.
He will cast sinners into hell and then make a new world of perfect paradise where there will be no more death or suffering, it will be filled with joy and happiness forever.

Couldn't be said any better than that!

What is the image of God? We talk about it a lot, but what exactly is it?

John 4:24,

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
Originally Adam and Eve had spirit. A careful reading of Genesis will show that God formed man's body from the earth, made him a living soul by breathing the breath of life into him, and created him in his own image, spirit.

When Adam disobeyed God, his spirit died and he became a man of body and soul only, just like all the animals (If it breaths, it has a soul. Soul is simply breath life). The whole purpose of the new birth is to once again become a creature of body, soul, and spirit. It's the spirit that enables eternal life. The body rots and breath life (soul) simply ceases to be.

That's pretty quick and dirty. If interested in learning more: http://www.picturesofsilver.com/abundantly/abundantly03-01.php

I dunno.

The OP mentioned atheists attacking God because He allows people to suffer. And then asked why people allow other people to suffer.

So, I thought. God and humans have something in common, and that is probably one of those things that is meant with being in God’s image.

That is actually a point for theism I am making here.

I see what you are saying now. It makes sense.

I know it's not very vogue to believe in a devil in our modern scientific world. I think it's considered even worse than believing in God. Nonetheless, the Bible does say speak of him at some length.

It is common knowledge (believed or not is another question) that God is in charge of the world. That's what we've been taught for thousands of years by the churches. But however common that knowledge may be, it is not what the Bible says. God has never held dominion over this world. Right after creating the world, God gave dominion to Adam.

Gen 1:26,

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them [people] have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

It may sound better, more pious, to say that God was in charge, but that is not what this verse says. God gave dominion to Adam and Eve. Because Adam disobeyed that dominion must have been transferred to Satan. He is called the "god of this world."

2Cor 4:4,

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
The devil even offered Jesus that dominion when he tempted him in the desert.

Luke 4:5-7,

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that (power) is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
That is the present state of things. The devil has both the power and the ability to give it to whomever he sees fit. Hitler, Cambodia's Pol Pot, Stalin and others didn't get to be where they were by God's intervention. They got their power from the devil, so no need to blame God for the Holocaust. In the future, when Christ returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the dominion will, for the first time ever, be granted to Jesus Christ. Until then, the devil has dominion, not God.

The only thing holding Satan back from destroying everybody and everything outright is people who believe God's word. They are called the lights of this world. Even a tiny match is enough to dispel the darkness of the deepest darkest cave in the world. At one time, Noah was the only believer in the whole world. But that one light was enough for God to keep things going long enough bring his son into the world. Had it not been for Noah we wouldn't be discussing this.

Bottom line; God is not in charge of the world. That designation belongs to Satan. If true, that means it's an insult to blame God for a innocent child's sickness. What do people think the devil does all day (assuming they believe he exists)? Does he just sit around laughing and gloating over that child's misfortune that God caused? I don't think so. Take care...
