Why do many Sunnis and Shi'as hate each other?

MD

I've been reading about the growing instability in Iraq and how now Shi'a militias have been targeting Sunnis now. ISIS killed Shi'as by the thousands. And this has been going off and on for centuries. I've heard bad things about each sect from Sunnis and Shi'as as well.

Why is there so much hatred between the two sects?

There is no hatred between the two sects. And there had never been a fight between them in Iraq and Syria until the USA invasion of Iraq and Gulf states' meddling in Syria which I believe is the main cause. So, it is all politics, which has nothing to do with sects.

And as for the fight today in Iraq, it is between the Takfiri wahabi-salafis vs. sunni Arab tribes, sunni kurds, shiite Arabs and Turkmens, christians, etc. who do not join them. The former use the name of sunnism but it should not blind people. Just checking what ISIL do to the sunni brethren who don't join them should be enough proof for the people.

Generally speaking, I dunno man. I lived almost all my youth somewhere in the edge of Saudi Arabia and had no idea about any sectarian things in Islam.

When I came here to Makkah and had my job 8 years ago (I was 24 then), someone was spreading emails about different sects of Islam only then I knew about it.

There are awful claims from each side against the other and seem to generalized against each other. This is sad :(

Same here. Never really heard of sects in Islam or didn't paid attention before all those wars.
I just knew that we were under a Shia caliphate centuries before (Fatimid Caliphate) but that's all.
In north africa we have more soufis than shias, we don't have any hate toward them.
This is a political issue that use people to divide them and give more privileges to those who share similar beliefs. They failed to unify the country by making differences.
At least that's how i see it, and i think that some foreign countries try to use that for different purposes.

how do they justify murder in islam?

I've seen images of ISIS sacrificing women and beheading children, draining their blood like they are animals for slaughter... how are these acts justified?

I don't know much about it, but I think some of them only do that, not all. I don't know the reason tho.

Salam alaykim,

1-Foreign policy of Saudi Arabia:
Brother, thousands of innocents are being killed in Syria, Yemen, Nigeria and Iraq by your kings just because you Saudi Muslims dont know much about politics(Especially the foreign policy of your government!!!!).

You have the duty of "knowing". You as a Muslim have the duty of stopping your kings!!! I always wonder, are Saudi Muslims NOT afraid of God to take silence against their cruel kings and let them do what ever they want?! Do you think you dont have a share in the blood of innocent children who are killed by your government and your soldiers? Have you ever heard of Muhammad(pbuh)'s sayings about cruel kings?!

2- Israel:
Why dont you put sanctions on the goods of Muslim-killer-Zionists? Why do you use their products? Why do you support their economy?! Why are you allies with some infant-killers?! Will you not be ashamed of our dear prophet, Muhammad(pbuh), in the day of judgment!!!

3- Mahdi(May God hasten his arrival):

Do not join the group who will attempt to kill Mahdi(a.t.f.sh), or you will be punished in the day of judgment!!
Do not be silent against the groups who will try to kill him, or you will regret in the day of judgment!!

This is all subjective. Throwing the blame on me as an excuse also does not really help in anyway. All countries have their dark side including Iran, yet people throw the blame on each other and expect others to do things while they do nothing themselves. Governments are in a league and bystanders like me are on another league. One should not mix the two.

Brother, listen..
Let's suppose I dont take any actions and I throw it on you, does it let you not to take any actions?!!!!!!
Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) says:
When one observes a Munkar, there are three levels to deal with it:
1- Reject and denounce it in your heart
2- Denounce it by your tongue
3- Deal with it by taking required actions

He(pbuh) also says:
When a Muslim observes an innocent person who is in need of help, and ignores him/her, he is not from me.

If you cant take actions, if you are not able to denounce the wrong actions of your kings by your tongue, at least denounce it in your heart as you have the duty of supporting innocent Muslims.

On the other hand, you can stop buying Zionists' products. Ask your people not to buy any Israeli goods as they slaughter innocent Muslims in Palestine(Who are Sunni and of course my brothers). This is what I do, dont you wanna join me?!

Remember, God says "God does not put pardon on a soul except in what's in its capacity". You're assuming I support specific sides by buying their products. I don't. I even stopped buying my favorite French engine oil for similar reasons. No Starbucks for me and I keep running behind people to not buy from them. I am doing what I can already and so many other nationals here too, but people don't really know and keep judging us.

Alhamdulillah, So happy to hear that.
You also mentioned a nice verse of Quran. It's confirmed. However, I personally think that we are doing less than our capacities. Had we used the best of our capacities, there wouldnt have been so much problems between Islamic Ummah.
This is the first time I'm talking to a Saudi Muslim, hence, I'm going to make the bet of it.
Hater between two Islamic nations

There are so much hatred in Iran toward you Saudi Muslims due to so many reasons, including:
-Your kings cooperate with Israel and USA , the worst enemies of Muslims
-Your kings pose threat to Shia Muslims and fund terrorist groups to kill them
-Some Saudi Muslims, annoy Iranians in Hajj as much as they can. They insult us by touching our women sexually. it was just some months ago that two Saudi soldiers raped two Iranian boys just after Hajj. They call us Kafir. They dont let Iranians cry on Baqi and prophet's(pbuh) grave. Thousands of Muslims were killed including hundreds of Iranians in the last Hajj, Iranians who survived that event came back and quoted how Saudis wanted to kill them and how they survived. There are some Iranian scientists who are lost after Hajj, we dont know where they are!! and....and...etc.

I'm well aware that this hatred is likely to turn into blood, as many people scream in Masajid,"down with Ale Saud and Wahhabis". What do you do to deal with this problem?

It's okay, someone thinks we are doing what's within our capacity and someone else says we are not. That's something driven by emotions. We don't have the right to give judgement on this. Only God does because He's the only one knowing what's really in our hearts, no other humans.

As for the three hatred points above, those are just media talk taken with generalization over all Saudis. That's wrong. I believe they are lies distributed by either the media or by people who want to cause hatred between Sunna the Shia brotherhood, or between Saudis and Muslims. Many Sunnis also think Iran drills the heads of Sunnah, hang them, rape them and destroy their mosques. All thanks to the misleading media and lies some people spread. Follow me and don't let those create hatred in your heart towards all Saudis. I don't generalize any thing negative against Iran people. I care for them like I care for myself. By the way, I'm not Wahhabi. So many Saudis are not.

Ask those Wahhabi's to refine their manners toward Iranians during Hajj. We are all Muslims, after all.

This is probably the best answer. Throughout Islamic history, sunni and shia dynasties have ruled across the Muslim empire, with little in fighting.

If one was to trace the all out wars and hostilities between the shia and sunni, it is a modern occurrence, with the French and the British meddling in the middle east and India.

True. Brother, if one studies "Memories of Mr.Hempher, the British spy" will find out how British intelligence agency played a dominant role in the foundation of "Radical and wild Islam". They ruined and still ruining the brotherhood between Muslims.
They train so many clerics and scholars for years and inject them to our religious system. Can you imagine?!!
There was a Shia cleric in Iran decades ago with so many abilities(technologies given by British government to him to deceive people). He used to say, "The one who loves Husain ibn Ali (a.s.) must not fight with oil exports"!!! Later they found out that he was a British spy.
There are so many clerics in both Shia and Sunni side that spread rumors and add fuel to fire!
See Yasir al-Habib and Fadak channel or Allah-Yari and his channel, who claim to be Shia and insult Aisha and Sunni Muslims. Who do you think support them?!
The answer is: USA and British government!!!
How come?!!!
The British government which killed 8-10 million Shia Muslms in Iran, now is supporting Shia channels?!!!!

Agreed entirely.

The only way the Muslims were ever defeated is through divide and conquer. Sadly we have been stupid enough to fall for it for almost 500 years.
