I wonder why christians don't do this
I think this more has to do with the regions these religions thrived in. If I lived in the Middle Ages in Northern Germany there's no way I'd take off my shoes in ten degree weather just to get splinters from the hardwood floor.

hmmmmm Good question ! In my circle we always take off our shoes in home and at others homes, I actually have a variety of guest slippers in various sizes to encourage my guests to feel relaxed,I never thought about this as a Holy ritual and should be reserved for God and in his House of worship.....hmmmm, I will read up on this thanks :) On the other hand we Know God enjoys smells, as incense in the temples and scent in sacrifice is spoken about much in the Old testament, I am wondering If God would prefer some just keep their shoes on......:D

well. God isn't going to kick you out either way. My question was more out of curiosity. If muslims do it. How come we don't?

There is a part of the prayer, for Jews, during which the Cohen proceeds to bless the whole crowd. During that time, the Cohen needs to take off his shoes, as he is blessed by God directly.

I thought muslims don't go to other temples. are you not a muslim?

I brought up that other traditions also remove shoes... Hindus and Buddhists to name two. I will bet that other east Asian traditions, e.g. Shinto, Confucian, Taoist and syncretizations thereof also remove shoes. Consider that shoes touch the earth and dirt directly. To not remove shoes when entering a place of worship is to track in dirt and God(dess) knows what else.

Not sure why the comparison with Christianity it never holds itself to that many commandments in the past also i am not sure why people think that Christianity was started or continued in the cold Norths, Christianity always existed in the middle-east and still does yet they keep there shoes on. So the argument of cold-feet or wooden floors do not help even Muslims in Russia don't go in mosques with there shoes on.

In Islam we have a tradition that we try to follow our prophets (peace be upon them all) as much as we can since they were the best among us. As for why we have to be clean and washed before praying you can visit the Dir.

It would be far more interesting to ask why don't religious people walk through the thresholds of their sanctuary/church/mosque/temple etc, bare foot - on burning coals or embers?

Sleeppy

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
Or should all of the Jews and Muslims in the holy city, Jerusalem, be shamed for wearing shoes on that ground.. Even spilling blood in and around there?

Jesus in me
Because the Mosque is considered to be the House of God Almighty where Muslims come to Worship Him after purifying themselves. Not only the shoes are to be taken off, to prevent dirt/unclean stuff from outside to enter the Mosque, but also cleanliness of the body/clothes in general are very important as well.

Something similar is also mentioned in the OT :
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5

Does this come from the Qu'ran?

I don't think that God was inferring that shoes are dirty. However it is possible that God is seeking to have Moses make more personal contact with the ground. I believe shoes would be an insulator.
