Why do people become bisexual and homosexual?

Probably not once you're an adult, no. The brain isn't THAT plastic. But if babies were raised from birth in a different culture with different gender norms in terms of "what boys are good at," "what girls are good at," what jobs tend to be occupied by men or women, etc. I imagine you'd see quite a bit of variation.
I don't really think it's a cultural thing. I would need evidence of that.

Since you see the neurological differences between men and women as signs of their innate differences, do you also see the neurological differences between gay and straight people as signs of their innate differences?
Yes, I do think gay and straight people have differences, generally speaking. There's variation throughout the human species. It's neither good nor bad. It just is.

Here's a study about gender norm differences between American and Korean samples (I've never really thought about it before, but I can't imagine individualist vs. collectivist ideologies NOT somehow showing up in neurology): http://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Publication Files/10-097.pdf

For neurological data, I'll keep digging. :)
Thanks. But that paper is talking about how men and women are viewed in different cultures. That's not really what we were talking about.

OK, but now you've got me thinking about neurology. :p

Apparently there's a whole subfield called cultural neuroscience. Your brain on culture

What we'd really need to look at is the interaction of culture and gender on neurological functioning. Some PhD candidate in neuroscience just found their thesis. :D

Why do people become bisexual and homosexual?

Has anyone figured out why?
Become? As in they were one way and changed (by choice? By gradual mutation?) into another?

That question doesnt make sense unless you are asking why do people choose to be gay or perhaps why our bodies decide to tuen adnormal as a healthy person develops cancer.

Its an insulting question. I "became" lesbian when I found out there was a term for the attraction I have. I evolved from a normal human being and became an alien to straight criticing people so thats how I became lesbian. It was how straight (those anti gay) defined me differently than others. I all of the sudden had a disease that can be cured. I became sick, as if I caught some type of virus.

Gay, lesbian, bisexual are words. They define a persons attractions. They are not Who people are. You are not straight, you are spiritual hitchhiker. I am not lesbian, I am Carlita."

You dont become spiritualhitchiker because you or someone else made up that name for you. (Refering to your real name). Its a name. Depending on your cultural, you are technically speaking independent of your name. (You dont need it to live). Same as Carlita.

Can you imagine if, instead of someone calling you by your real name, they call you by your sexual orientation? Even more so, they use this scientific label to define what you became as if the title was part of your dna make up? Can you imagine being defined by your attractions and even physical gender?

Gay,lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transexual are terms. No one becomes these things in the middle of life. It is part of their human make up as someone is born naturally Deaf. It is normal.

We differ in how we are born. To call what we are born with something that we became sounds technically speaking illogical. Thats like if jane was born with red hair and later in life she became someone with red hair.

Its an incorrect statement.

The only honest answers to your questions are "No. Nobody really knows"
The best current thinking is a widely variant combination of genetics, environment and learned behavior. I knew I was gay from the first time I noticed someone that way. But I was a normal guy and I could even pretend to myself to be straight. I have none of the usual "markers". I was bio moms first child. My real parents were so boringly heteronormative and stable. I was never influenced sexually in any way.(And I slept with RCC priests whose names I didn't even know).

It just happened, no telling why at this point. But what is really important is that it doesn't matter. It doesn't hurt anyone in any way. In fact, the world is better off without an additional few high consumption 1st worlders.
So my lifestyle is more moral than some religionist popping out babies.

Which I know to be false, because most gay men have Mr. Universe type bodies.
Do you serious believe this because if you do you have a really warped impression of homosexuals? In general, they look and act pretty much the same way anyone else does (with the same vast diversity and variation).

I find what you wrote hard to understand. Can you give any reasons?

Let's forget about gay and bi for a moment. As straight people, we weren't born knowing everything about sex. We tried different things as we went along, and some of them we liked so we did those things some more. Simple, right?

Some straight people explored beyond straight sex, and tried gay. In some cases, some of those people must have enjoyed what they encountered, and so they did that some more.

I agree that most people are probably born gay or straight. But given that there are many millions of people involved, it's not hard to guess that some were born one way, tried the other way, and liked it better. It might have been the physical act they liked better, or maybe just the people involved.

It's a bit of an insult to any form of sex to say that the only way someone could like it is if they were born to like it, you know, if it was beyond choice.

I'm guessing a lot of people are gay or straight for the simple reason that whatever they are is all they know. It either didn't interest them to explore, or they were afraid, or the opportunity never arose etc.

Hey, don't listen to me, I'm Mr. Boring. But not everybody is.

On an emotional issue like this it would be good to use emoticons to indicate facetious posts.
In my experience gay people, women in particular, struggle with their weight more than most people. This is because resorting to food is a common response to angst and depression.

Different development in the brain than heterosexuals. Not incorrect by any means, as there have always been homosexuals and bisexuals, merely different.

No one has the ability to choose who they are sexually attracted to, so I'm not sure that the verb "become" is appropriate here.

I just mentioned that because you brought up how gay men are more likely to be gender non-conforming and there some truth to that, same as how when gay men try to be all masculine, it ends up like a caricature.
"same as how when gay men try to be all masculine, it ends up like a caricature."

- Is this a joke, or are you just ignorant on the subject, not having many gay friends in your inner circle? Because, from my experience, this could not be further from the truth. I know many gay men who are far more "masculine" and tough than I am, and there is no way that anyone would be able to tell they were gay unless they specifically told them.
