Why do so many need a god ?.

I beg to differ. God is anything but self-evident or self-existent. Quite the opposite really, particularly if one considers its consequences.

I could say the same thing about our President!!

Sorry but I don't need any faith to see that God exists, you on the other hand could do with more faith!!

I myself don't need a god, I am happy with my own life, but I find it hard to realize that many are not happy unless they have a god in their life, what's the big deal about having a god in our life. So I suppose I am asking those who need a god in their life, to share why they do need this god, I am honestly confused to why we need a god.

Maybe this is the wrong question?

This question is kind of like asking why a fish needs water.
It makes no difference if a fish is unaware that it is within the water that it lives and moves and has its being, regardless of what it knows, without water, it would cease to exist.
Regardless of what mankind thinks they know, it is within the mind of God that we live, move and have our being.

The question is not, why do so many need a god.
The question is, why is it that so many do not see what is right in front of them?

The confusion seems to arise when we begin to think that this is all just about belief.
While God is separate from us, we also live within the mind of God.

It is kind of like holding an image of an animal or a child or any object at all in our mind, we are not the child or the animal or any of these things, we are a person thinking about these things, but these objects are, for as long as we hold the thought, a part of our mind, they are a part of who we are.

We are thoughts held in the mind of God.
If God stopped thinking about us we would cease to exist.

That is as bold a claim as it is misguided.

You mean it is a bold claim and it is misguided.

Faith is part of who we are.
All have the faith that they have.
While ones faith can be increased, it is not for us to judge the laws under which another was born.

If it were enough I probably wouldn't be a Theist, that's true.
But it's not enough, not for me.

And I do live my life, I just live it with God and for God instead of on my own and for myself. Well I try, anyway :)
well what if there was no god, how would you live ?.

I don’t think anyone needs a god but lots of people seem happier with one so what’s the problem? There is really very little we literally need to live so the vast majority of things we all have in our lives are simply about making us happier. In that context, I don’t think there is anything special about a solid philosophical worldview nor anything special about the subsets of those worldviews that happen to incorporate the existence of gods.
yes many need god to be happy, which in some ways sad.

yes i can agree with that, we are all collectively God, so why even bother about a concept of god, we are what we are and all we need to do is be who we are, we don,t need to think about the blood that is flowing through us, it just does.

If there's no God, you're right. You don't need him. If there is a God, you're wrong. You need him. It's pretty much that simple.

but if there was a god, why bother with him, did he make us just to worship him every second, is he that insucure that he needs us to bow down to him and tell him how much we love him ?.

Another thing to note is that often "God" as concept in common, everyday usage enjoys an interesting benefit from lacking a clear meaning.

The word has come to acquire some value as a conversation piece, because it is so easy and so frequent to use it instead of more specific words with clearer meanings that other people might feel the need or the desire to challenge.

Family and friends may find some appeal in agreeing to hope for God's guidance as opposed to, say, facing up front disagreements about what exactly would make for a better future.

For instance, is it a good thing if a father receives a job offer that pays well but will put him away from his wife and children? Quite often we just do not know in advance and we would rather not speak frankly on the matter at that very moment.

Some stress may be avoided by postponing any likely conflict by using "God" as a placeholder that masks the actual description of our hopes and fears. Different people will make diverging assumptions, but they will not have to hear those perhaps painful or unconfortable differences if they do not want to.

Of course, there is a very significant downside to that: without clear stances, there can be no clear concessions and no meaningful negotiation, nor deserved mutual trust.

Your question was why do we need God. If God exists and if he created you and if he sustains your life from moment to moment, then of course you need him. You can ignore him, but you can't eliminate his influence for good in your life. All good comes from God.

God didn't create us to worship him. God created us so that we would have joy.

Why do some need a naturalistic explanation for the universe, for many, there is obviously a lot of emotion, gratification, security, sense of superiority derived from that belief.

At the most fundamental level, belief in God is merely skepticism that blind chance accounts for all we see around us, it's a logical deduction

This explanation has always baffled me. Why is the choice either "blind chance" or God? What if the explanation is neither, and the cause is something that we merely aren't aware of yet?

The prevalence of Pascal's Wager indicate to me that more than a few people need gods because they cannot or will not accept an end to their consciousness. Bending over backwards to try and insert cosmic significance to their life, if only they believe hard enough in the right way.

Yes and I call that the life force that is within everything, no need to call it god and worship it, as there is no need to worship the sun that gives life to everything on our planet, its just what is.

God is the weak sad little part of your brain that wants you to matter in a big way. You don't. Get over it.
