Why Do They Do It?

Could be lack of love was a symptom rather than a cause. He had a history of alcohol abuse. Cops are also way more likely to be domestic abusers than the general population. Be it because of stress and anti-couneling or because it draws abusers like positions of power does.

All in all probably more complicated than a single word.

Most people experience mental health problems at some point in their lives. Not all have adequate access to help. Republicans routinely blame mental health problems for mass shootings, so you would think there would an effort by congress to have healthcare access more available.

It's hard to understand. I think even sociologists, psychiatrists and psychologists can't really understand why someone would do this.
There is explanation of behavior, and then there's understanding why people do certain things like this. Good people can't relate to such acts and can't understand it.

How can a father look at his 12 year old daughter, and shoot her to death?

I would say, for starters, it's a lack of love.
What do you think? Why do people do things like this?
Some (Religious) people claim:
"There is not even 1 'good' person"
(All humans are corrupted in some way)
(Nobody is w/o flaw)

IF true
THEN all people should be able to understand violence in some way

But specific violence, as in this case, when never done it, is unimaginable why do it

Knowing how violence originates it is possible to know why it happens...the person has withdrawn himself even more from his "spiritual" heart, desensitized himself

(people eat meat, but not their own dogs usually, unless they are desensitized)

(the hangman or hitman must have been desensitized a lot to be able to do his job)

The more sensitive you are, the more you experience the Divine

I agree it’s definitely a lack of love...

...And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12

I think as we near the end of the age
the demonic influence grows ever stronger and I think we can expect to see more people succumb to hateful behaviors. When people are unaware or deny the devil and demonic spiritual beings and/or are not on guard then they’re thoughts and actions are easily influenced and manipulated.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. “
–Ephesians 6:12

As well as wondering how someone could kill their child, how could anyone torture their own little daughter and allow others to for porn?

Can't think of that in my culture; but things happen when people forget their 'dharma' (responsibilities). Mahabharata is an example.

Root cause is "lack of Love" (Spiritual Love, e.g. seeing the Divine, Atma, in others, in everything)

You're treading the line of being quite offensive here. I realise that's not your intent.
Good you realize that. But for others, I will elaborare a bit more, to avoid confusion about what I meant

Well, I called it "Spiritual Love", as I don't mean sex. So, the Heart2Heart (Love) experience, not the Body2Body (love) experience. Then I gave examples (e.g.)

This Heart2Heart experience is available to all. When you experience this you won't murder, as in the OP

On the other hand we all know about "crime of love/passion", which proves that this murder cause is not about "lack of love". Hence I always use capitalize Love when I speak of Spiritual Love

Some call it "the Divine", others call it Atma (bliss, spark, H2H connection, conscience, soul etc.)

I tried to include all, but maybe this extra explanation makes it more clear

Killing one's family is very largely a male act. Women kill their families much more rarely.

A common triggering factor is when the female partner states an intention to leave the relationship, which directly threatens the subject male's self-identity as a male ─ 'unraveling' is sometimes the word used.

Intrinsic to such acts is the male's sense of losing control of his life and its meaning to him.

It's not a one-size-fits-all explanation, but it's the central one.

No doubt it varies as to why some kill members of their own family - their partner, children, or all - but one reason, even if delusional (and most doing so probably are delusional in some manner) might be that they want to relieve their victims from future suffering - financial hardships and such. Hence love might be there but some irrational thought overrides this. It also might involve religious beliefs - as to expectations of any afterlife. On the other hand, one of the most common reasons probably is in getting revenge on a partner - as to killing those who are loved - and more driven by hate.

A lack of love, a lack of compassion, a lack of respect.

A feeling of powerlessness a feeling of anger, a feeling of depression.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
