Why Do They Do It?

Really? What year(s) do you have in mind, may I ask?

Any year in the last century (1900-2000) compared to nowadays. Nowadays, kids can't be beaten up by their own parents without that being called abuse, but that used to be the norm to educate children. Also, back when I was a kid, bullying was completely normal, we didn't even have a word for it, it wasn't until I became a teenager that schools started to raise awareness about it.

I thought so.
Not only is the data affected by the year, but also geographically.
Then too, you are focussing on specifically selected things. Why?

I had to mention specific things to explain where I was coming from when I stated that children are being treated better now than before. Didn't I? When you mentioned homicide rates, wasn't that the same reason?

The biggest difference I see between now and then is the degree of violence that children in general experience in their daily lives. A lot less routine violence nowadays.

Well your opening post is a prime example:

How can a father look at his 12 year old daughter, and shoot her to death?
Nev. Police Officer Fatally Shot Daughter, 12, and Injured Wife and Son Before Turning Gun on Himself

I would say, for starters, it's a lack of love.
What do you think? Why do people do things like this?

To say "lack of love" for such an act is quite simplistic and inadequate. Obviously your ideas here are driven by your ideals of Christianity that all we need is love. As if it is that simple. It isn't. You are debating from an idealistic view from Christianity, and it just doesn't work against reality. This is a huge problem with the anti-choice people who want to eliminate abortion as a medical service for women. They are looking at this issue in an idealistic sense, and not at the broader set of realities that make abortion a sound option for women.
Okay, so you are saying that it's not as simple as "lack of love" because mental problems is also a factor. Am I correct?

That out of the way, if one doesn't find the problem to be mental health issues, what other reason(s) do you suggest?
