Why do women convert to Islam more than men? And do they really?

Hello guys.

This has been going around my head for sometime. I'm Muslim, and I wonder why myself. Islam is know all around the world for specially having noticeable gender restrictions, those of which for women are made more noticeable with the rise of gender equality. If so, then why do more women convert to Islam than men? If Islam is really oppressing women and looks at them as a lower class than men, why do women, the concerned gender, convert more to it? At first I just randomly heard about it, but now I did simple quick Google search and found some sources supporting that. I skipped Muslim sources as much as possible. If there are other conflicting sources, please provide them for the sake of discussion. I could be wrong in my conclusion. Here are some:

http://www.standpointmag.co.uk/feat...-convert-julie-bindel-islam-female-conversion
"There are about 2.4 million Muslims in Britain and studies suggest there are between 10,000 and 14,000 white converts among them. It is estimated that 75 per cent are female."

http://www.themodernreligion.com/women/women_why_converting.htm
"100,000 people per year in America alone, are converting to Islam. For every 1 male convert to Islam, 4 females convert to Islam." Self note: (maybe so every 1 man can get 4 wives? Just kidding :p)

https://ladyimperium.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/why-are-most-of-the-western-converts-to-islam-women/
"Out of the 5,000 people who converted to Islam in the U.K, in 2011, some 75% of the converts were women, and most of them were white."

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...the-rise-and-rise-of-the-convert-6258015.html
"it emerged that of the 5,200 Britons who converted to Islam last year, more than half are white and 75 per cent of them women."

http://www.clarionproject.org/analysis/staggering-numbers-women-converting-islam
"Soumaya, née Aphrodite, is one of a wave of tens of thousands of Westerners who convert to Islam every year, more than 75 percent of whom, astonishingly, are women."

What are your thoughts?

Please keep this discussion within topic, thank you.

Marriage?

More immigrants are males, and people who marry Muslims tend to convert. Perhaps male Muslims are also more likely to marry outside their "community"

This would explain at least some of the difference. I'm speculating though as I don't have any evidence to support this.

It could be one aspect from an intelligent person.

I agree with the above responses. I think that women convert to any religion more than men and I've seen it happen many times that women who want to marry Muslim men will convert for them but it doesn't often happen that a man will convert for his Muslim wife.
I'm not sure what other factors are at play.

Hmm, Those make valid point. Do you guys think those points make a big difference in the provided statistics? 4:1 ratio and 75% in women's favor is just too much, in my opinion. It still feels weird to me that that many women convert to Islam hearing all that oppression (let's say supposed oppression for now) of women, if we look at what concern women in Islam, let alone relating terrorism to it.

There could be other factors but I don't know what they might be. It would be good to know the stats in different countries to get clues.

Yet 75% of them leave in the first 3 years..... Then you have to consider how many Muslims become Apostate... More and more Muslims are leaving Islam where it's safe to do so ....Try

That's a good suggestion! If you would kindly quote about women leaving Islam in that big percentage from reliable neutral sources (for the sake of credibility), it would be most appreciated. This is really important to me.

So far the vast majority of ex-Muslims I heard of are men.

As a muslim woman I don't think Islam opresses muslim women and doesn't view us as less.
I know quite a lot of convert muslim women from different nationalities and backgrounds majority converted because they believe Islam is the path for them.

Here are some female muslim convert stories:

It probably boils down to naive western white women who fall in love with a muslim man and/or have gotten bored of the "western lifestyle" and want to be "all spiritual and connected": thinking that Islam will "spiritually awaken" them etc.
You tend to find it happens with white born-and-raised westerners who romanticize foreign religions and see a rose-tinted perspective of it. Take all the idealistic western youths who have joined ISIS, or the white western tourists who visit India and similar areas for "spiritual enlightenment", even though we are no less "enlightened" than anyone else.

TL: DR = Bored white people.

I agree with you. What I meant is that this oppression thing in a common view of Islam around the world yet more women convert to Islam than men. This conflicts with that oppression view. One could say that those women don't know enough about Islam, but wake of information technology these days says otherwise. Now almost everyone can search the internet and watch the media to get information, and this information is certainly not always pretty about Islam.

Are these conversions both:
1) Completely voluntary with no peer pressure or intimidation, and
2) Taking place in safe, developed "western" countries where the threat of "honour"-based violence is significantly diminshed?
