Why does anyone care about watching sports?

I think basketball is entertaining to watch, but I honestly don't watch much sports, it's much funner to play them.

I enjoy watching sports that I have played that have strategy, and I know some of the strategy. Like, I enjoy watching curling, and nearly everyone else would find it ridiculously boring. One of those sports like snooker that looks very easy ... until you play it.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Love me some football. AMERICAN football. Though soccer isn't so bad to watch.

I'm a Saints fan through and through, and have been for decades. That stands to reason, since I'm from New Orleans!

Rooting for the Pats now that my beloved Saints are out of the running. I can't stand the Giants.

Anyway, let the games continue!

Interesting topic, and of course the answer is that not everyone is a sports fanatic. It's likely that most of us will show an interest in sports that we participated in when we were young -- so in my case - in order of interest: I watch any major track meet...like the Golden League or as they now call it - Diamond League; boxing (got started after an older brother joined a local club); and basketball is about the only league sport that I still pay much attention to now, likely because I played throughout high school.

When it comes to the rest: in recent years, I'm spending the entire month of July watching the entire Tour de France, mostly because of the quality of the race coverage -- a tip of the hat to those cameramen riding around on the back of a motorcycle....that's something you can't get at NASCAR....as I've tried to explain to one of my brothers who's such a NASCAR fanatic that he and his wife book 2 or 3 trips per year to take in a NASCAR race! I can sit through watching the longest stages of the Tour easier than five minutes of watching race cars go round and round in circles on an oval track. Actually, the short days...when the Tour does the time trials, are the ones that I consider boring, because they are just competing against the clock, not with riders right next to them.

Moving on....I'm surprised there's not a whole bunch of threads about the Superbowl. I haven't payed much attention to NFL football since the last time the Bills had a strong team, and the Superbowl has turned into such a bloated, ridiculous spectacle, that it's like sitting through the football version of the Academy Awards. Rarely are the games even close to the quality of some of the playoffs preceding the big day. So, don't ask me who won until I read about it in the paper the next day. Tomorrow night I'm planning to wait until everyone's settled in their living rooms, or at the bars that are playing the game (legally or not) and go for a long run down the mostly quiet and deserted streets, and plan to be back home before the game's over.

Funny - normally, I don't get into a sport unless I'm involved with it myself... except for curling. It's the only sport I like watching that I don't play.

I'm an obnoxious football fan - in fact, I still have my Saints flag hanging outside my front door, even though they have been out of the playoffs for weeks now.

Heck, I may leave it up through the Mardi Gras season! King cake, anyone?

GO, PATRIOTS! (Picture of my daughter and her baby today!)

I with you. I'm a Ravens fan and so sad we didn't make it to the show. But I'm an AFC fan when it comes to the Superbowl so I will be living my Superbowl dreams vicariously through the Patriots.

Go, Pats!

I'm a Saints fan all the way, but we had our day in the sun a couple of years ago, and we had a decent season again this year, so it's all good.
