why does the media focus on men so much?

if you agree, that is.
seems like whenever you watch tv all you see are men on every channel for the extreme most part.
if you do see a female on tv, she's in the same shot as the guy. if the shot does show a female alone in a shot, then it's a usually a very short shot, then it goes to showing a male or males for a much longer period of time in the next shot.
maybe you never noticed. maybe you might, the next time you watch tv.

actually, i was getting frustrated with tv trying to avoid seeing men on tv so much. it all started when every time a hott girl was on tv for only a second, then goes to some guy forever.
maybe if i watched shows like charmed. if only i could stand to watch shows like that.

I don't watch television. Back when I did, I can't say I noticed this at all.

Especially not when I grew up watching Xena, Warrior Princess.

If this is true (I think it might be, though influences of genre and percieved demographics might be big) I would say the language has something to do with how our minds become subconsciously wired.

"He" is treated as the linguistic default for genderless. Which is weird.

So generaly, if the protagonist is a woman, is because there is some script reason fo her to "have to" be a woman. Otherwise, mind defaults in mae protagonist.

Amount of script writers being men may influence a lot.

you don't watch tv? or is it that you don't like to admit it? like people who don't like to admit they go on the net...especially forums boards. ;)

i haven't noticed it until recently when i got a tv again. so maybe you just don't own a tv. :soccer:

No, I really don't watch TV. As in live, over-the-air broadcasting. I think the last time I used my TV over-the-air was to catch the presidential debates on PBS. Or it might have been to check the local news channel when I heard tornado sirens going off outside earlier this season? Don't watch much TV-on-DVD/computer either; lion's share of my TV usage is for gaming.

Honestly, I really just cannot stand ads. As part of my lifestyle, I am to minimize my exposure to marketer's brainwashing. I do a pretty darned good job of it, and refusing to watch over-the-air television is a large component of it. So is using web browsers with AdBlocks.

Well one must keep in mind that as biologically superior beings it is natural for the media to focus on us more often than the inferior kind.

I have to admit though, I do not believe the media is properly displaying us men right. But than again I do see a lot of female anchors in the News Media industry sot hat probably attests to something.

But boy oh boy I have to say, it is good to be a man

There are an awful lot of very snarky replies I would love to level in response to this, but I'll let someone else do it. Frankly, that attitudes like this even exist anymore kind of astounds me.

yeah, the ads are pretty annoying and seem to get worse, especially with so many dudes in the ad.
but it's not that you don't watch tv, you just don't watch it nearly as much. which i can understand, if you have the internet. the net is better than tv to be. :rudolph:

actually, i was noticing the news can be less of seeing dudes that other networks. and many of these news chicks are much more hott these days, stripper hott if you will.

i suppose men are not being displayed in the media right as well. maybe this is why men obsess over other men so much, even complete strangers of men these days. mental.
the media needs to influence women to obsess over men, instead. :franken:

maybe this person could have chose better words. i am certain on that. however, women are not as out going as men generally. maybe if the media would show them in a better light, it would help inspire more of them.
no offense to you in case you are one of them exceptional females though.

maybe in the movies. but on tv? i beg to differ,

they show mens ***** on tv like it's supposed to be funny, but you never see a women's *** shown in that fashion, or ever.

the same goes with showing shirtless men as opposed to topless women. :Snowman1:
