Why don't conservatives apply their logic about guns to other areas of public life?

I knew the promise of a wall meant a mix of physical, sensory & automated barriers.
Those who took "wall" literally didn't give the matter enuf thought.
Mexicans paying for it? Did anyone believe that?
Trump supporters believed it all and voted based on that. The majority. This was Trump's #1 talking point during the election. "A great huge beautiful wall, the most amazing wall in the world....believe me.."

Who's gonna pay for the wall? Audience: MEXICO!!!!

It's sad the republican establishment go after these people.

Barry Goldwater lamented this same thing, especially feeling that all too many "conservatives" only really care about avoiding taxes and regulations-- iow, being self-centered.
This ties into the whole self-centered thing, but I've found that many conservatives have no problem with regulation as long as it's for something they dislike: if it's a welfare recipient or an abortion clinic, the more red tape the better. Recently with Trump not getting good media coverage, I've even seen some call for licensing of the press.

I know you dislike Trump, but I don't defend his shortcomings.

And yes, all barriers can be circumvented, but this doesn't mean we should have none.
It's about better managing a problem than we have, ie, greatly reducing illegal crossings.
Perfection is for preachers & mathematicians, not the real world.

You wanna all but eliminate illegal crossings?

Make the forking businesses that hire these guys responsible. And fine them millions, if they so much as hire a single illegal for a single day.

That would end it right then and there.

But we'd never see that, would we? Blame the sex-worker, never-ever blame the clients who create the demand.

That's the Conservative Way.

He isn't presidential material.

He isn't presidential material, but in a sense I have to feel sorry for the man. He is someone that will never be able to escape from his bad disposition, which he has from his nature. It doesn't seem to be in his capacity, willingness to undertake, or both.

In a sense, the people unable to escape from a bad disposition deserve pity most of all. They will spend their whole lives hurting people, which Trump has pretty well done.

I just advocate doing what's cost effective.

Government does prosecute businesses who hire illegals.
But we should also prosecute local governments which give benefits to illegals.
Remember that if all their jobs were eliminated, they'd become totally dependent
up on government largess & charities. Prosecute the charities too.

Not really. Token efforts at best. Ignored 99.999% of the time. Business as usual, nothing to see here.

But we should also prosecute local governments which give benefits to illegals.
How? Oh, I agree--but how? By what existing legislation would you do that?

There currently are none such, and prosecuting businesses is on shaky ground too.... (with respect to existing law).

Remember that if all their jobs were eliminated, they'd become totally dependent
100% false. They would not come here, if there were no jobs, and if it was known there were no jobs for illegal immigrants.

Indeed-- immigration is down sharply in the past 18 months, as compared to previously.

And what'ya know? Fruit is rotting on the vines, other harvests are not getting done and so forth.

All those jobs that the willing illegals did? Lazy Libertarians refuse do have anything to do with... Dems and Repubs too.

Who knew?

Wait.... anyone not affiliated with the GOP knew....
up on government largess & charities. Prosecute the charities too.

Illegals don't get benefits. Without proof of citizenship/tax records? Citizens don't get benefits either... Classic GOP lie, here.

And under what existing law would you prosecute a charity? And why? What's it to you? Charities, by definition, have zip, nada, nothing, damn-all to do with Government Policy .... or money.

Or they did, right up until trumpEm began eroding Separation of Church And State, by granting government grants to religious groups...

No one I know believed it.

So. This group willingly voted for an Open Liar?

That fits--- these are the same people who simply do not care that trumpGrabEm is a self-admitted sexual predator against women. Nor do they care that he has obvious ties to white supremacy groups.

So a little lying is seen as Quality Workmanship?

That fits their warped mentality, I suppose.

I occasionally read about businesses being fined in the news.
Harsher penalties & more diligent enforcement would no doubt
have an effect. But consider the consequences....
For illegals who've lived, worked & raised a family here for many
years, they'd lose their employment. I can see reasons why
both Dems & Pubs would prefer lax enforcement.

Might be necessary to enact federal legislation making giving benefits to illegals.
100% false.
Not so for those illegals who live here, & would lose their jobs.
The only support left would be sending children (citizens
if born here) off to work. Government assistance helps.
They would not come here, if there were no jobs, and if it was known there were no jobs for illegal immigrants.

Making employment unavailable would cut immigration, but not entirely.
They could still....
- Work as independent contractors
- Be supported by family.
Illegals don't get benefits. Without proof of citizenship/tax records? Citizens don't get benefits either... Classic GOP lie, here.
I've searched the web, & yes there are government benefits offered to illegals.
It varies with state, but to call it a "GOP lie" bespeaks to much watching MSNBC.
Ref....
California gives immigrants here illegally unprecedented rights, benefits, protections
Can undocumented immigrants qualify for welfare benefits?
There are many more such links.
And under what existing law would you prosecute a charity? And why? What's it to you? Charities, by definition, have zip, nada, nothing, damn-all to do with Government Policy .... or money.
A charity knowingly helping illegals evade the law could be prosecuted under RICO.
Or they did, right up until trumpEm began eroding Separation of Church And State, by granting government grants to religious groups...
Separation is a separate issue.

95+% of voters voted for a liar.
But I voted for the one (of 2 with a chance of winning) who appeared to be the lesser of 2 evils.
Lying is an important tool of the politician, so it's not a deal breaker.
More important are the agendas a candidate would likely implement.
That fits--- these are the same people who simply do not care that trumpGrabEm is a self-admitted sexual predator against women. Nor do they care that he has obvious ties to white supremacy groups.
It doesn't make sense to point at one candidate (Trump), list what one doesn't like, & then vote for the other without even considering their faults. Hillary is far from a paragon of virtue & competence.
More thoughtful voters look at all candidates, & weigh everything about them.
And this often means holding one's nose while voting.
So a little lying is seen as Quality Workmanship?
That fits their warped mentality, I suppose.
That's awfully rude to say about Hillary voters.
It doesn't serve civil discourse to insult the other side.

So your hate for a woman is so great, you voted for a self-admitted rapist?

Okay. Noted. And that kind of fits the GOP narrative rather well, does it not? Their platform is and has been anti-women for quite some time, now.

I did not. I was careful to not vote GOP, this time around. Nor will I ever-- since they saw fit to put in a self-admitted rapist....
I don't know who you voted for, but if the criterion of never lying is paramount,
you'll be voting 3rd party, & therefore having no influence on who wins.
I do that sometimes too, but it's always a tough decision whether to vote
for the lesser of 2 evils, or vote for a candidate I actually support.
