For someone who keeps insisting that
this is a pointless argument" and that "it doesn't matter whether one calls God he or she", you sure are curiously invested in it. Wonder why. :sarcastic
I'm starting to think that perhaps you are right Lil...

Nothing in the world is pointless, otherwise it simply wouldnt be there. Do keep that stuff to yourselves. Victor is curious, let him be!

Its an interesting question

In Islam God almighty is neither male nor female but because in the Arabic language there is no IT and according to the law of the Arabic grammer if something is not female then we put the male word He. Its similar in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, many other sub continent & middle eastern languages but when we translate the scripture we write it in He. Because we use It for Dogs, Pigs, we like to artribute respect for God almighty.

It's not fair really, half the world is female so that sort of means there is a male god who made females for male entertainment, i think we need to get rid of the he and start saying "it" For no-one knows the gender of god, no mattter what any scripture says.:shout *IT*
This is PC running amok. Are you an "it" or a person? No one that I know of really believes "he" is in reference to God's gender. "He" is a quality of relationship: God the Father is the initiator, the "womb" is mother nature.

Actually, a number of godessess have been identified as female, it was not alawys the case that gods were male.

You may not know of them, but I guarantee that you know people who do, right here on this forum.

Gos is considered male, and in many societies male is considered superior to female. Coincidence?

As me, my name, I am a "he". But human as specie, I am an it. So is "God" his name or is "God" his "specie"?
Neither. A title.

You're right. Some believe there is a "Mrs. God" and others believe the male difference makes men superior. It's enough to make me cry. :sad4:

The English language has no gender neutral nouns other than IT when refering to other beings, and IT lacks dignity.

God is thus He because phallocentricity is inherent in the english language and ergo it cannot be She, by the standards of our ancestors anyway.

Just a male orientated Patriarchal take on things, you don't find God' exclusively male in Pagan Systems, only in your monotheistic male written nonsense in the Judeo'Christian/Islam theological moulds

The word "he" for God is an abbreviation of the phrase, "Tee hee", which is what God says whenever he thinks of humanity.
