Why Is No One Speaking About Overpopulation?

And you're not helping by excusing an exploding population.
You overlook the fact that our lifestyle can remain the same
while being made far greener. But the fewer the people, the
less the deleterious effect on our environment.
I guess you missed the multiple times in this thread where I said I support birth control?! I've even said on this forum recently that I support birth control and abortion for eugenic and population control purposes, and someone got squicked out by that.

Birth rates have gone down considerably, even in the so-called "third world". Current projections are that we'll top out around 10-11 billion. Too many to be sure, but not continued growth either. At the same time, extreme poverty has decreased around the world, and yes, everyone, everywhere wants to move up the economic ladder, which means that as poverty is reduced, we will be gobbling up more limited resources and polluting more and so on.

It strikes me that we need to shoft how we spend our R&D dollars and get really, really serious about sustainability across the board. From energy to farming practices, to water use practices and so on.

I'd suggest that Human life on Earth is not sustainable. At some point, we will run out of the things it takes. Will Jesus return to save us, or will we begin to colonize off planet? It is anyone's guess.

Do you know what Eugenics is? My mother was almost impacted by it but she somehow slipped past.

I don't think 11 billion is sustainable - i hope we can get to a smaller number humanely.

Yes. I'm not talking about forced sterilizations or abortions or crap like that. Basically, if you have a serious inheritable condition, you probably shouldn't have children. If your fetus is diagnosed with a serious condition, it might be best to abort. I just say that because I see fetuses born with like severe brain damage or even most of their brain missing but the stupid parents thinking they're saints for not aborting what is essentially a vegetable.

With the way we do things, we are rapidly making the Earth unlivable. I hear people running around and wringing their hands about Plastics, Carbon Footprints, Aquifer depletion, and so many things. Yet, most people do not change their ways. I fear, even living more frugally will not stop us running out of resources eventually. A couple of scientists have said we have perhaps 100 years to get off the planet.

Yet, it seems that no one talks of overpopulation. It seems that the poorest countries are the ones with the highest birth rates, while countries like America and others do not have enough new births to sustain their population. Honestly, I think perhaps that Trump's wall is actually about Birth Rates?

When President Clinton was in Office, he attended a conference in Rio De Janeiro, where it was decided that the practical limit on the population was around 2.3 Billion. We've far exceeded that now.

Even those who believe in NO GOD must realize that humanity is approaching an extinction level event?
Tell @ecco . She thinks everything is hunky-dory.

Lol.

Too many people are too selfish. They’d yell, “I’ve got my rights!”

Solution (partly):

Kelp aquaculture (farming)!

But, then, we’ll have to clean up the plastic in the oceans.

I think Geo Engineering is all about this.

And people should stop behaving like animals. 1+1=2, simple math.
Start sense control + Stop desires + Think global = will stop excess new babies.

Someone mentioned that war is an effective population reducer but I do not think that is so. I'm not going to do the math right now.

Hi,

First let us look at the big picture..
Earth can host much much more than what many think..

There are many countries that need to increase their population..

So there are many underlying problems here..

The whole system that is running world need to re-thought ..

Then, those who tried to solve the problem like China have created bigger problems, such as the Gender embalance, where there is the "traditional bias for sons. Many families [in china for example] abort female fetuses and abandon baby girls to ensure their one child is a son, so about 118 boys are born for every 100 girls, against a global average of 103 to 107."

100 years ago 5 or 10 kids were no problem, because many died young and the average people didn't get very old.

It's the same with losing weight. What you don't eat won't give you the extra kilograms
Same with over population. The unborn babies won't give us over population
Math is very simple. China figured it out long time ago with 1 child per family

Of course you are free not to do the math. But you were the one asking the question about over population.
Hence I added that people need to control desires and think global (not only about their own family)

The problem isn't really overpopulation but the materialistic Western lifestyle wrecking the planet by using up so many resources and producing so much waste and pollution. That's the problem people don't want to talk about. Instead they want to whine about black and brown people who are dirt poor having babies, even though they aren't the ones wrecking the environment.
We have disagreed on this before. Apparently I just can't follow your logic.

How or why do you conclude that overpopulation is not a problem?

Are you implying that it is somehow easier or better to hope for or attempt to educate literal billions of people into more sustainable habits, when even you emphasize that very few people even want to talk about that?
